Breaking News: New Year Resolutions died this week—Here’s how to revive yours

It’s official: This is the week most New Year’s resolutions bite the dust.

Let’s have a moment of silence for the gym memberships, the abandoned budget spreadsheets, and the kale slowly rotting in the back of your fridge.

Okay, the moment’s over.

Here’s the deal... Motivation is overrated.

If that worked, why do people watch YouTube videos all day and then do nothing?

If you’re waiting to “feel motivated” to get back on track, you might as well wait for a unicorn to show up and pay your bills.

That's not happening, even though it would be awesome.

What you can do is get recommitted to your goals. Here are 3 effective tips for how to do this:

1. Check Your Values: Are You a Self-Commitment Keeper?

Do you keep the promises you make to yourself?

If your answer is “uhhh… sometimes?” that’s a problem.

Breaking self-commitments chips away at your confidence and creates a habit of quitting.

Recommit by deciding what kind of person you want to be:

  • The person who says, “I’ll start Monday” (every week, forever)?
  • Or the person who shows up, even when it’s inconvenient?

2. Check Your Vision: Where Will You Be in Six Months?

Close your eyes (not now, keep reading) and picture yourself six months from now.

  • What does your life look like if you stick with your goals?
  • What does it look like if you don’t?

Time is passing either way.

Recommitment means choosing the version of yourself who will thank you in July, not the one bingeing Netflix with zero progress to show for it.

3. Train Your Brain: What Must You Believe to Take Action?

Sometimes, the brain is just lazy. It prefers comfort and the path of least resistance and would rather scroll Instagram than do anything productive.

To beat it at its own game, you have to reprogram it.

Ask yourself:

  • What must I believe to take the next step? (Example: “Taking one action today will feel amazing.”)
  • How can I associate more pleasure with taking action? (Pro tip: Reward yourself immediately after doing something difficult. Treats work for dogs AND humans.)

When you train your brain to connect positive feelings to action, you'll stop waiting for motivation and start creating momentum.

You can implement these three tips NOW and get a confidence boost immediately after getting back on track.

Here’s to staying committed (and giving kale another shot).

Let me know how it's going...
