Don’t be afraid to be different...
It’s safe to say that Raygun – one of Australia’s two breakdancing representatives at the 2024 Paris Olympics – certainly embodied the line she splashed across social media.
The only problem for the 36-year-old academic, whose real name is Rachael Gunn and who holds a PhD in Cultural Studies, was that her idea of different looked very… well, different… to every other breaking routine that took place at the storied Place de la Concorde.
Which led to Gunn and her Aussie-tinged “original moves” being outscored 18-0 in all three of her round-robin breaking battles – but not before spawning thousands of internet memes.
Which just goes to show one breakdancer's kangaroo hop can almost break the internet.
As our co-founder ?? Sonya V. points out, there’s a big difference between “champagne dreams on a beer budget” and the quality it takes to actually compete at the highest level.
Cheap out on execution and it could all come back to haunt you.
Which is something we're in the business of helping you avoid.
We're all about taking you higher.
And we're thrilled to have you back for the latest edition of our newsletter.
Let's hop to it.
Too busy to scroll?
Here are our top three takeaways.
Raygun's disastrous Olympics showing is a reminder that to reach the top, you need to execute flawlessly.
Some businesses don’t like to admit they’re offshoring, but Hunt + Hawk has proved it can be done ethically and sustainably.
Don't have a brand identity that helps you stand out? Then you'll struggle to compete with businesses who do.
The true cost of quality
Poor Raygun.
While she was "devastated" by the backlash to her Olympics breaking routines, she's also an insightful case study in what happens when a lack of interest leads to choosing the easiest option available at the time.
Often it ends up costing more in the long run...
