Breaking the Ice on AI Education

Breaking the Ice on AI Education

For our inaugural UBTECH Education newsletter, we're focusing on AI education! Here's a fun activity to get started:

They may be silly questions, but icebreakers are an engaging way to start the conversation on AI and robotics education! Below are a few questions teachers can ask their class when introducing STEM-related subjects in their lesson plans. The goal is to highlight how these concepts can be fun and incorporated into everyday life. ?

  • What do you think AI can’t do?
  • If you could design any robot, what would it do?
  • If you could invent an app, what problem would it solve?
  • If you could program a robot to help with one school subject, which one would it be?
  • How will AI change the world in the next 20 years?
  • What’s a problem in your neighborhood or school that could be solved with engineering???
  • What do you think TV and movies get right or wrong about AI/robotics?

Demystifying AI Education: 4 Common Misconceptions

For many, incorporating AI concepts into curricula can seem intimidating.?Balancing student management with lesson planning can make teaching AI principles seem less practical. However, AI is here and embedded into everything we do and it's safe to say it isn’t going anywhere.??

As schools adopt AI literacy in their curriculum, supporting educators throughout the process is key to the initiative's success. For starters, that includes demystifying AI education overall. 4 common misconceptions include:

  1. You Need Advanced Coding Skills to Teach AI
  2. AI Literacy Can’t Be Integrated Across Multiple Subjects
  3. AI Should Only be Taught in High School or College
  4. AI Education is Purely Technical and Lacks Creativity
