Breaking Good

Every team needs ‘stars’ to enable them to shine. And no book details the formation of a star quite like Bryan Cranston’s “A Life In Parts.” From the wilderness years right through to super-nova status, the theme that keeps repeating is… attitude is everything. The determination to continue to learn and keep on developing skills. The total respect for fellow professionals. The ability to harness emotional experiences, rather than be blind-sided by them. The importance of focusing on the achieving the task, rather than outcome. In one episode, Cranston describes filming a sketch with Warren Buffet for a Corporate and asking the Sage of Omaha what is the secret of his success. “Oh it’s no secret, “Buffet replied, “Just make more right decisions than wrong ones and you’ll be fine.” Sadly, we are not all Billionaires or Superstars (…yet). But it is true for each of us that every deed has consequences, and consequences have no pity. In “A Life In Parts,” Cranston emphasises over and over again that it is the attitude behind the action, and the spirit in which it is executed, which is the most important rule of engagement. And let’s face it, we each in our time play many parts.
