As an entrepreneur, I vividly remember the early days of my business—a venture I hadn't intentionally set out to establish. I was the engine, the conductor, and the train itself, chugging along every possible track. From handling the paperwork, and managing sales, to delving deep into analytics, I did it all. As the business grew, I brought in more hands on deck. Yet, everything, every tiny decision, and task, had to funnel through me.

And the weight became heavier and heavier. The freedom, money, and creativity that I envisioned entrepreneurship would bring turned into shackles. Days turned into nights, with little to no time off to rejuvenate or let those creative juices flow. I was trapped in a "business jail" of my own making, both the warden and the inmate.

But a shift in perspective changed everything.

Once I identified that there were really 5 key areas to help me escape business jail, I felt like a new level of freedom was granted to me.? I share them with you below:

The 5 Keys to Escaping Business Jail:

The first key is to start looking at your overall vision for the company.? Do you want it to be a job replacement, fund your lifestyle, or to become bigger than you?? None of these are wrong.? But what you do each day may vary depending on that end vision.? With that end vision in mind, the first step is to determine your ideal day.? What activities are you undertaking, who are you talking to?? Where is your money being earned?? When you understand what you truly want, it becomes easier to design your business around that vision.

The second key is to Unlock Your Genius.? To get back in touch with the activities that give you energy and put you in the zone.? Recognize and focus on your unique strengths and passions. By centering your role around what you excel at, you not only find joy but also deliver unparalleled value to your business.

The third key is to Embrace the art of delegation, of letting go.? Trusting your team with responsibilities allows you to focus on bigger-picture strategies and prevents burnout. It's a sign of growth, not a sign of relinquishing control.??

The fourth key is to build the plan.? Figuring out which tasks you are going to shed, to who (independent contractor, existing employee, a new employee or virtual assistant), desired outcomes and what level of delegation you are going to employ ahead of time will help alleviate the concerns you have around letting go of control of everything.??

The 5th Key is to Build Momentum: Start with small changes and celebrate the wins, however minor. This creates a positive feedback loop, propelling you forward with energy and confidence.? This type of shedding of tasks will be ongoing as you grow and the things that you truly love to do shift.??
