Our habits, both good and bad, are the architects of our lives. While some habits propel us forward, others can act as anchors, preventing us from reaching our full potential. Let's explore common habits that might be hindering your progress and strategies to overcome them.
Phone Addiction:
You're unhappy because your dopamine receptors are over stimulated. Checking your phone 100+ times per day is NOT only destroying your happiness, but your ability to get stuff done. Constant phone usage can disrupt focus, productivity, and overall well-being.
The best productivity app on your phone is called airplane mode(use it).
Excessive Screen Time
You could have been living your dreams, but instead, you decide to live someone else's.
TV is passive, reading is active. TV shuts off your brain, reading turns on your imagination. Your mind deserves better than netflix. Replace mindless scrolling with activities that stimulate your mind, such as reading or learning new skills.
Cancel all your subscriptions, and thank me later.
Sitting all day
Our ancestors used to hunt mammoths. Now we sit at desks for 8 hours per day. Then we watch TV for another 4 hours(on average). Prolonged sitting can lead to health issues and decreased energy levels.
Humans aren't built for this. Get a standing desk, go for walks, take short breaks to stretch and move around throughout the day.
Perfectionism
The #1 factor that influences creative success? The volume of work produced.
Change your mindset with the 70-20-10 rule.
- 70% of your work will be mediocre.
- 20% will suck
-10% will be amazing
If you're avoiding failure, you're avoiding success.
Striving for perfection can be a double-edged sword. While it fosters excellence, it can also lead to procrastination and anxiety. Embrace the concept of "good enough" and focus on progress over perfection.
Eating processed foods
Uncomfortable fact: More people die in the U.S. of overfeeding than underfeeding. Today food companies optimise for "bliss-point". They engineer that exact combination of sugar, salt and fat for tastiness. Prioritise whole foods, portion control, and mindful eating to nourish your body and mind.
Junk food is all "bliss-point" optimised. It's killing millions.
Treating symptoms instead of root causes (The Quick Fix Mentality)
Xanax, Adderall, wiegt loss pills.....
I'm not talking about people who are prescribed these. I'm talking about the people abusing them instead of treating root causes. Relying on substances or instant gratification to cope with challenges is a temporary solution. Build resilience through healthy lifestyle habits, therapy, or meditation.
Get addicted to exercising, eating clean, and sleeping for 7+ hours.
Swiping endlessly on apps
The comfort culture avoids face to face interactions. Even voice texts are seen as a personal assault these days. Social media can create a distorted perception of reality. Focus on building genuine connections and don't fear rejection.
Being courageous in real life is more attractive than anything you could ever say in any social media app.
False kindness
Today our society walks on eggshells. Its takes the form of participation trophies and avoiding tough conversations. Conflict is inevitable, but avoiding it can lead to resentment and strained relationships. Develop effective communication skills and address issues directly. People aren't getting the critical feedback they need to grow.
Create an inner circle that will give you honest feedback.
Breaking free from these habits requires conscious effort and perseverance. Remember, small steps lead to significant changes. Celebrate your successes, learn from setbacks, and most importantly, prioritize your overall well-being.
