There are moments in life when we feel trapped, burdened by circumstances or people who stifle our potential. Recently, I made a bold decision—to leave behind a toxic, narcissistic leader who had weighed me down for too long. In this decision, I’ve experienced a freedom like never before. The world is wide open, full of possibilities, and I can hardly contain my excitement for what’s ahead. But as I reflect on this newfound freedom, I realize that the journey to this point was guided by one constant: my faith.
Faith has always been my anchor, but never more so than in this season of transition. When I was in the thick of the struggle, it was my faith that reminded me that God has plans for me—plans to prosper and not to harm, plans to give me a future filled with hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Even when I doubted myself, felt inadequate, or questioned whether leaving was the right thing to do, God’s voice whispered, "Trust me, I have something better."
Walking away from a toxic environment isn’t easy. Narcissistic leaders have a way of making you doubt your worth and question your instincts. They take credit for your successes and blame you for their failures. They manipulate and gaslight, creating a fog of confusion and self-doubt. But I have learned that when we lean on God, He makes our paths clear (Proverbs 3:5-6). He gives us the courage to step out in faith, even when we can’t see the full picture.
In this newfound freedom, I’ve come to appreciate even more how essential faith is—not just as a belief system but as a way of life. Faith gives us the boldness to break free from what holds us back and embrace the unknown with confidence. It’s like Peter stepping out of the boat onto the water; the storm rages, but when our eyes are fixed on Jesus, we can do the impossible (Matthew 14:29). The storms I faced under that leadership were real, but the moment I took the step toward freedom, the weight lifted, and I realized that God had been calling me out all along.

Now, as I stand at the threshold of new opportunities, I’m filled with gratitude. Gratitude for the lessons learned in that challenging season. Gratitude for the strength I found through faith. And gratitude for the future God has laid before me. I am reminded of Isaiah 40:31: "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Today, I feel like I am soaring.
The world is wide open now. I am free—free from the toxic chains that once held me back and free to pursue the calling that God has placed on my heart. Faith has been my guide through it all, and it will continue to lead me as I step boldly into the next chapter. For anyone who feels stuck, I encourage you: trust in God. His plans are always greater than we can imagine.
I’m excited for what’s next, and I know that with faith as my compass, the best is yet to come.
