Breaking Down the Voice to Parliament: Insights from Industry Leaders

The Voice to Parliament gains momentum as it heads toward a critical vote at the end of 2023. The Voice, as it’s commonly referred to, would allow Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to have direct input on laws and policies that affect their lives. The Voice would guide government policy across a range of areas, including incarceration rates, improving life expectancy, and addressing family violence.

In 2017, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders penned the Uluru Statement from the Heart (pictured above), calling for constitutional reform to enhance the representation of Indigenous Australians. The Voice to Parliament emerged as a crucial proposal from the statement, advocating for a direct line of advice and input from Indigenous Australians to all levels of government.

Support for the Voice comes from various sectors, with major corporations including BHP, Rio Tinto, Qantas, Woodside, Lendlease, and IAG among the first to back the campaign. Interestingly, the country’s major sporting codes, including the AFL, NRL, Rugby Australia, Netball Australia, Football Australia, Cricket Australia and Tennis Australia, are also coordinating a campaign to support the Voice.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Voice and its impact on the business community, we invite you to join us at the upcoming Atlas Partners Morning Meetup on Tuesday, May 23rd, at 7.30 am.

During the event, financial services and accountancy leaders can participate in a Q&A discussion with Topaz McAuliffe, Founder and CEO of 15 Times Better . We encourage those curious about this topic to register for the event and join us for an insightful conversation.
