Silvergate, Silicon Valley Bank, and Signature

It's without a doubt talk of the town! Did the crash of SVB send us into a recession? Let's talk about it ???

Earlier this week?the U.S. Treasury, Federal Reserve, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation announced that?they would step in to protect?SVB and Signature Bank depositors’ money. In the immediate aftermath, bitcoin and other large cryptocurrencies were suffering as a result.??

Silvergate, Silicon Valley Bank, and Signature?were initial go-to banks for crypto. Major players used them, which unfortunately means big losses for the crypto industry.?According to Fast company earlier this week,?Bitcoin, Solana, and Ethereum were down almost 10%, while?Binance was down nearly 8%, and Dogecoin was down over 10%.?

What does this mean for the start-up scene??We're already in a challenging market, so since many start-ups had money in these banks, the dire situation is even worse and puts a lot of founders in a position where they can't get access to their funds. I?empathize greatly with tech startups who got involved in this, since having cash in the bank at early stages is so crucial, for a second I believe all founder's heartbeats took a skip ???

Crypto Offshore Banking

In light of the recent event, I included one of?World Blockchain Summits?videos on crypto offshore banking, a talk by?Ignacio Aguirre Franco, VP Of Growth At Xapo Bank.?He talks about the importance of looking for certain features in a new bank account, particularly when it comes to finding a crypto private bank.?

The four features he recommends are:??

• Having both a banking license and a VASP license in the same jurisdiction
• Look for a well-regulated jurisdiction that matches the type of bank you're looking for
• Having a strong balance sheet and core banking?
• Having strong security measures in place
