Breaking Challenging Behaviours and Implementing the Right Support
EDClass Ltd
"EDClass operates as an alternative provider to support pupils who have difficulty in attending a physical school.”
With half-term ending for a majority of schools throughout the UK, the education sector is still struggling to overcome certain barriers. Students’ behaviour is worsening, the academic gap is widening, and absentee levels are still prevalent. However, we can implement new strategies and work collaboratively to deliver better educational experiences and outcomes.
The government has recently announced its new ‘mobile phones in schools guidance’. To summarise:
The government’s does have positive intent and there are steps they are taking to improve the situation in the sector. Mobile phones can have an impact on learning and focus for both teachers and students and the guidance could also help with anxiety and protect from cyberbullying. However, there are other areas that need attention so challenges can be resolved.??
Overcoming Challenging Behaviour?
Since the pandemic, there has been news that student behaviour has decreased. Outbursts and physical assaults have risen throughout the UK. A recent news article stated:
?“In the EIS Aberdeen survey, 42% of teachers reported violent behaviour taking place in their schools once a day.
More than a third (37%) said they had been physically assaulted by a pupil, and more than half felt their school did not have clear strategies in place to prevent violence.” –?BBC News?
It is evident that there needs to be better policies and strategies in schools to alleviate pressures on teachers. Schools should not be a place where teachers are in fear of coming to work as they won’t be able to deliver high-quality education.

There can be a few ways to break this barrier and a massive focus should be on building trust and rapport with students to help find the best solution possible for them. Read our blog on five ways to overcome behaviour barriers and reintegrate students?here.
Supporting SEND students?
To keep in line with the SEND & AP Improvement Plan, we need to fulfil children’s potential and build parent’s confidence that their child with specific needs is obtaining the best support possible. However, it seems as though there is still some way to go. The Guardian reported that the number of requests for EHCPs has surged, stating:
“Since 2019 the number of plans issued has risen by 72%, so that in 2023 more than 500,000 children and young people had EHCPs, but dedicated funding from central government for special education needs and disabilities (Send) has only risen by 42%.” –?The Guardian?
It is apparent that there needs to be more done to combat SEND challenges. But, the lack of resources and support can make it difficult for schools in some instances. Finding the best solution possible is most important so we must do our research to understand where to turn to.
