BREAKING: CARLSON OUT AT FOX NEWS, LEMON OUT AT CNN

Two of the biggest names in cable news are losing their jobs. By far, the bigger story is Fox News parting ways with Tucker Carlson. But also making news is CNN's decision to drop longtime anchor Don Lemon.

First, Carlson:

Tucker Carlson’s departure comes after the network settled a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for more than $785 million last week.

The right-wing provocateur and host of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Carlson was named in the lawsuit. On air, he repeatedly accused Dominion of rigging the vote. Carlson did so, often under the guise of “I’m only asking a question,” but his message was clear: The 2020 vote was rigged, and Dominion was, in a nefarious way, involved.

Carlson is still facing a lawsuit from a former Fox News employee, Abby Grossberg, who says he led a misogynistic, discriminatory workplace.

This will likely not be the end of Carlson’s work in news. We suspect he will latch on at another right-wing outlet, and soon.

On to Don Lemon...

On Twitter this morning, Lemon announced that his agent told him the network was letting him go. Lemon has sparked some controversy over the years, occasionally wading deeper into opinion rather than sticking to the news. But what caused the parting of ways? Writes Yahoo! Entertainment:

Lemon's exit comes on the heels of?Variety's?April 5 exposé detailing multiple supposed misogynistic incidents over the past 15 years at CNN. In 2008, the anchor allegedly threatened his?Live From?co-host Kyra Phillips when she got an assignment he coveted. Lemon supposedly made a derogatory comment about former colleague Soledad O'Brien and disrespected Nancy Grace on the air. Unnamed sources questioned his journalistic integrity and behind-the-scenes behavior.

Lemon disputed that report, and the split with CNN is already getting acrimonious. Lemon complained the network executives didn't tell him directly he was getting fired. CNN Communications disputes that, saying Lemon was "offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter."

Carlson's last day on Fox was this past Friday. It looks like Lemon's last day at CNN was today.
