Breaking the Busy Cycle: Prioritizing Employee Health with Corporate Wellness

In today's competitive business landscape, companies are constantly searching for ways to improve their bottom line. Yet, they tend to ignore a crucial factor - the physical and mental well-being of their employees.

Employees are constantly juggling multiple responsibilities and often neglect their own health because of the culture of being too "busy."

I believe it's time to break the busy cycle and prioritize employee health with corporate wellness. Workplace has become synonymous with busyness . We often equate constant activity with success and productivity, but this culture is rooted in negative habits that can have adverse effects on employees' physical and mental health.

Chronic stress and burnout are common among those who prioritize the "busy" mentality and neglect self-care , leading to significant negative impacts on employees. Recent surveys have shown that work-related stress is a widespread issue, with almost 80% of employees experiencing burnout on the job at least some of the time.

?“If you want your employees to truly thrive, you need to allow time for their minds to wander,”?in a recent Adam Waytz , Harvard Business Review

Waytz goes on to share how research in neuroscience has demonstrated that forcing employees to disengage from their tasks can be beneficial for their cognitive capacity and cognitive load. This means that the more the brain is engaged in a specific task, the less it can transcend thehere and now. This has been linked to experiencing meaning in life, creative expertise, and even pro-social behavior.

Busyness = Burnout

In the workplace, chronic stress and burnout are common among those who prioritize constant activity and neglect self-care. The results of recent surveys indicate that work-related stress is a widespread issue with significant negative impacts on employees.?

According to Gallup , almost 80% of employees experience burnout on the job at least some of the time.

These findings highlight the urgent need for organizations to address the causes of workplace stress and implement strategies to support employee well-being. Organizations must prioritize strategies that support employee well-being.

Empower Managers

Research from Academy of Management suggests that when employees feel they have a voice in organizational decisions , they’re more likely to remain in those jobs.

Listen to concerns through one-on-one’s, educational opportunities, create surveys that ask the right questions to address employees concerns strategically, coaching opportunities for growth mindset.

These initiatives will ultimately create an environment that values employees’ well-being through supporting mind, body and soul. Providing employees with tools to manage daily stress and handle challenges affecting their mental health requires resources. However, American Psychological Association studies indicates that not investing in employee psychological well-being can result in even greater loss.

Engage: Work/Life Balance

Engaging work-life balance is an essential strategy to combat the negative effects of busyness.

By offering incentives for employees to set boundaries between their work and personal lives, companies can encourage employees to take meaningful wellness breaks and prioritize self-care while boosting productivity.?

3 Ways to Incentivize Work-Life Balance
