Breaking Boundaries: A Conversation with Laura García | Business Unit Manager at VILT

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

For me, International Women's Day is an opportunity to recognize the achievements of women in all areas of society while also reflecting on the challenges that still exist in the pursuit of equality. It is a time to continue driving change.

Can you share a bit about your career journey? What inspired you to pursue this path?

My career has been a journey of growth, learning, and challenges. Both men and women have supported and encouraged me to take on increasingly greater challenges.

Have you faced any particular challenges as a woman in leadership? How did you navigate them?

I have not personally experienced challenges, but women often face gender biases, unequal opportunities, or the pressure to balance leadership with societal expectations.

Was there a pivotal moment that shaped your leadership style?

When I took on the responsibility of leading a team for the first time, I realized that leadership is not just about making decisions but about listening and inspiring others. I learned that a good leader doesn’t need to have all the answers but rather create an environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to give their best.

In your experience, how have workplaces evolved in terms of gender equality?

There have been significant advances, from greater female representation in leadership positions to more inclusive policies. However, there is still work to be done in terms of pay equity, work-life balance, and the eradication of unconscious biases.

What do you think companies can do to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women?

Companies should adopt clear policies on pay equity, promote female representation in decision-making positions, and offer professional development opportunities. They should also foster a culture of respect and inclusion.

How can both men and women contribute to gender equity?

We can all contribute by being aware of our own biases, promoting an inclusive environment, and supporting women in their professional growth.

What advice would you give to women aspiring to leadership roles?

Believe in your ability. Leadership is not about gender, but about preparation, determination, and the courage to take on challenges.

What skills or mindsets have helped you succeed in your career?

Adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to make decisions have been essential. Commitment to continuous learning and building strong relationships.

How can women support each other in professional growth?

Through mentorship and recognizing the work of other women. When one woman advances, it paves the way for others to do the same.

If you could change one thing about the corporate world to advance gender equality, what would it be?

Eliminate gender biases in decision-making and ensure that growth opportunities are equitable for all, regardless of gender.

How does VILT support gender diversity and inclusion?

At VILT, talent and merit come above all other factors. There are no barriers or gender biases: professional growth is based on the value, ability, and effort of each individual.

Finally, what message would you like to share with everyone this International Women’s Day?

The shift toward gender equality is not only the responsibility of women but of society as a whole. Let’s continue creating a world where everyone has the same opportunities for success.
