Breaking Away with Autonomia
I started self-publishing my first ‘book’ when I was eight. I wrote a story about an old woman whom the Devil came to visit and, when I was finished, I went to the local newspaper, asked to see the editor and publisher and delivered my first pitch to publish.
I later wrote for the school newspaper, which we published on campus and I printed in blue ink. I wrote, edited and delivered Pulse for AFCM and, after Black Tuesday, the Concord Crier, to the paid subscriber’s in box. I created AFCM’s and my own website and helped launched and create the movie-themed website Box Office Mojo, where I invented features, edited the founder’s column and suggested adding a syndication feed. I wrote movie reviews and a column and, when that was sold to the world’s largest retailer and I declined the offer to work for others, I broke away, enrolled in the Objectivist Academic Center instead that same year and self-published a blog, which ran for nearly 13 years, ending with a plea to remember a battle in Texas fought for 13 days.
On January 17, I started something new. I’ve finished the first month’s work. I invite my colleagues, friends and followers to come to Autonomia, my newest editorial enterprise. Read the inaugural and next month of articles on the house. New articles, series and features debut this March for the founding and annual paid subscriber.
