Breakfast with Champions

A special morning with a special group of young men. A little breakfast at a hidden gem in South MPLS

These guys were great contributors to our campus life and sense of community at MCTC in seasons 1997 and 1998. Like so many of our guys before and after them they completed degrees at their respective Universities. Their overall record in those two seasons was an astonishing 50-5 with two MCAC Southern Division Championships. Ben Claussen, Thomas Blount, Joshua Bausal and Dr.Kasim AbdurRazzag. Seated with this crew is Ron Gates the best assistant coach in the history of basketball. There were hugs, laughs and stories. Not sure there wasn't' some embellishment especially the stories involving my coaching. 24 years ago, these men were just kids. If anyone has any doubt that athletics builds character, look no further than these guys and all the players that came through our program before it was cancelled. We may have lost the program, but we haven't lost our fond memories of time spent together at 15th and Hennepin. Go Marauders!

Beautiful! Love to see and learn how past players are doing now. The cancellation of the MCTC Men's Basketball Program is a major sore spot that should haunt their 'legacy' for All Eternity. And yet, your current (and historic) photos confirm just how successful the Program was - over and over again. As a staff member, I was never asked for my input regarding the Program's future. Neither was ANY of my peers. No, this was the act of top leadership who placed their spiteful pettiness and olive-size cojones of power over everything - including removal of the college's most successful program. I will always appreciate your photos, Jay and Ron. Your legacy, along with the players you genuinely cared about, Cannot Be Erased!
