I see this over, and over, and over.
Companies want efficiencies to boost profits and improve their lives.
Every company has goals to improve and every finance department wants to find more efficient ways to doing things to drive profitability, reduce risk and make their personal lives more peaceful. It's part of growing a company.
But the reality is that most companies resist the change that would bring transformation.
There are so many new technology driven solutions that claim to bring positive change. How do we choose? We want better margins, automation of repetitive tasks, better insights into our data and more comprehensive assessments of risk. We want all these things to serve our objectives, but we resist the change because it “too much work†or "we don't have the resources". This is scarcity thinking that leads us to stick with our current structures and usually ends up making us think “there must be a better wayâ€.
If we aren’t willing to break the current thinking around our processes we won’t find any room for new ways of producing value. Transformation doesn’t have to be dramatic and happen all at once, but we need to create room for how we think about new technologies and how they can bring new results.
Unless we are willing to break down our structures & process from the inside, then nothing is going to happen differently on the outside.
Many of us work backward. We work from metrics and objectives, trying to create improvements just because that is what the senior leadership and shareholders expect. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with setting targets, but it’s how we achieve those targets that is often backward.
If your current structure has the capacity to stretch and achieve the target results than go for it. That is one option, but what about rethinking the current structure altogether to see what efficiencies can be achieved that may go way beyond the stretched model from yester-year?
Don’t let your structures keep you trapped in your current outcomes.
Generally speaking, if you don't have what you want in business and life, it's because you have the incorrect structures of thinking and ways of being. Instead, be constantly innovating, be willing to break down and re-assemble your tasks in new ways, be a leader who seeks out change, be a team who makes their future bigger than their past.
The truth is this, to transform our life we have to break our structures and be open to change.
Whatever level of profitability you have or don’t have in company right now is a reflection of your "systems & process".
Transformation takes work, but it doesn’t feel like work when you have a vision for how much better the change will be for your corporate and personal goals.
Take a look at the Harvard Business Review says about building an AI-powered organization:
· Move from siloed work to interdisciplinary collaboration,
· from experienced-based, leader-driven decision making to data-driven decision making
· from rigid and risk-adverse to agile, experimental and adaptable
The reality is we live by structures of thinking, habit, and being, and if we don’t change that, nothing changes.
My intention with this message is to give you a new perspective on transformation so you stop trying to change the outputs without first changing the structures on the inside that deliver the output.
Remember: For results to change you must change your structures.
Embrace AI now. The journey will be exciting.
