Break Your Misbelief and Embrace Reality
Near my office, there's a tea stall that has been serving delicious tea for over 20 years. The owner has a loyal assistant who has been with him for 10 years. This assistant became popular with customers because he made the tea, and people loved it.
One day, the assistant started believing he was the reason for the stall's success. He demanded a significant raise, threatening to leave if he didn’t get it. The owner, after trying to reason with him for a few days, eventually allowed him to leave.
The owner then returned to making tea himself, something he hadn’t done in years. Though it was tough at first, after two weeks, things were back on track. The customers still enjoyed the tea, and soon the owner hired a new assistant. The customers began chatting with the new assistant, just like before.
Lesson: The assistant overlooked a crucial truth: for 10 years, the stall thrived without him. He played an important role in the process, but he wasn’t the cornerstone of its success. A great leader understands that while team members contribute to success, the ability to adapt, restart, and lead from the front is what truly sustains a business.
What do you think? How important is it to recognize the true sources of value and stay grounded? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
