My friends keep asking me what I do...
Aleksandra Stefanovic, MSIMC
Marketing Director at Promises Behavioral Health
Do you know what the opioid epidemic’s impact is on your organization? Would you be able to identify a colleague struggling with an addiction or mental health challenge? What about your loved ones? Surely, you’ve heard of functioning alcoholics, but what do you know about other functioning addicts? What people with addictions have in common is a stigmatized disease that has more to do with their brains than the substances they use. That stigma is what holds people back from fighting for their lives.
Thankfully, I work for a company that believes in fighting the very diseases we treat, outside of our treatment centers. We've been empowered to fight on your streets and in your communities, wherever you are. I feel very lucky to do the work I do with the team that I have. Touching Facebook shout-outs keep us focused on what the work is all about - this one is front and center on my desk as a constant reminder.
If your organization is seeking to become part of the solution – if your organization wants to get involved in breaking that stigma so that people get the help they need, please consider partnering with the Heroes in Recovery movement. Your partnership fuels a community that moves to inspire action, dispel stereotypes and encourage storytelling from all walks of life.
I’m not going to talk about sponsorship levels or ask you to do anything for me. If you're reading this and it's resonating with you, I know you will privately message me and we'd be happy to work with you. What I do ask is that you learn more about Heroes in Recovery and consider joining the movement in any way you can.
If you believe in the movement and wish to share our message of hope and belief that recovery is possible, you’re in! If you want to help us celebrate individuals on the recovery journey and remind them that they're not alone, you're in! Welcome to the fam. #breakthestigma #heroesinrecovery #heroes6K
