Break the Mold: Starting a Side Business at Any Age.
Gary McKinsey, Business Growth and Marketing Coach.
Working with you to avoid expensive mistakes, so that you can focus on attracting your ideal clients, and accelerate the growth of your business.
You are never too old to follow your dream.
?The key is to plan, set a timetable and take action before you can’t.
?Yes, starting a side business with the goal of eventually quitting your job and working for yourself full-time can be a rewarding and fulfilling journey, however, it's not without its challenges.
In working with individuals over the last forty years.
One concern that many individuals have is the fear of age or lack of experience in running their own businesses.
However, it's important to remember that these factors do not have to be a barrier to success.
First, you should not let age be a barrier to you starting your side business or side hustle.
While it's true that starting a business may be easier for younger individuals with more energy and flexibility.
It is very important for you to remember and recognize that you have acquired a wealth of experience and knowledge that is pertinent to completing projects timely and working with people.
Your experience gives you a deeper understanding of working with people.
?Also, you have developed important skills such as leadership and strategic thinking.
Many individuals have said to me, “I want to start my own business because I feel a lack of purpose, and I feel unfulfilled in my current job.”
These individuals feel they have a message, service, or product that will improve people’s lives.
?Second. Feeling you lack experience in running a business should not hold you back from starting a side business.
While it's true that running a business requires a unique set of skills and knowledge, these can be developed over time.
In fact, you may already possess many of the skills. You just are not aware of them.
There are a number of resources available for individuals who are new to entrepreneurship, including mentorship programs and online courses.
It's also important to remember that no one starts out as an expert - everyone has to start somewhere and learn as they go.
It's also important to remember that starting a side business doesn't necessarily mean quitting your job right away.
Many individuals I have worked with started their businesses on the side while maintaining their full-time job, allowing them to gain experience and test the waters before making a full-time commitment.
This approach can also help to mitigate some of the financial risks associated with starting a business.
?
At this point, you may be thinking,” I wish I had a checklist of items to do or think about.”

?Here are some actions you can take to get started on your journey.
1.????Choose a business idea: Start by brainstorming business ideas that align with your interests, skills, and experience. Research the market and determine if there is a demand for your product or service.
2.????Create a business or marketing plan: A plan can help you clarify your business goals, target market, marketing strategy, financial projections, and other important aspects of your business. This can also help you determine the feasibility of your business idea.
3.????Set a schedule: Determine how much time you can realistically devote to your side business while still working full-time. Create a schedule and stick to it, allocating time for work, business, and family activities.
4.????Manage finances: Starting a side business may require some initial investment. Create a budget and determine how much money you can allocate toward your business. Look for ways to reduce expenses, such as starting small or using free resources.
5.????Build a network: Network with others in your industry or related fields. Attend networking events, join online communities, and connect with others on social media. This can help you gain valuable insights and make important connections.
6.????Establish an online presence: In today's digital age, having an online presence is essential. Create a website or social media profile to showcase your business and connect with potential customers. A word of caution be careful; this may impact your current employment.
7.????Delegate tasks: Consider delegating tasks to others, such as outsourcing certain aspects of your business or hiring a virtual assistant. This can help free up your time and allow you to focus on the most important aspects of your business.
8.????Stay organized: Starting a side business can be overwhelming, so it's important to stay organized. Use tools such as calendars, to-do lists, and project management software to stay on top of tasks and deadlines.
?
By taking these actions, you will have taken the first critical steps in starting a successful and fulfilling side business.
?
Now make a commitment to yourself to take action and follow your dream before you can’t.

1 年Love this message! It's so true. People can start businesses at most any age! The checklist is very helpful.
Too many good people fail because the academic cartels only produce and respect specialists. Any new venture should start with a mission statement, as required by ISO-9001. What do you wish to do, who do you wish to serve, and how do they benefit? Share it with people that you respect to see if it inspires them. If not, revise you mission statement. I hate to see so many good people failing.
