Breadcrumb Navigation | The Week of March, 25

Here are key design principles for effective breadcrumb navigation, ensuring optimal usability and clarity for users.

Best Practices:

  1. Breadcrumb Width: Maintain readability by keeping breadcrumb width to no more than half the page.
  2. Collapse for Mobile: Collapse breadcrumbs by default on mobile devices, using clickable ellipses for expanding.
  3. Long Item Names: Utilize ellipses for long item names to maintain readability.
  4. Dynamic Separator Icon: Use separator icons that mimic movement to visually represent the user's journey.
  5. Non-Clickable Last Item: Ensure the last item in the breadcrumbs is not clickable, providing users with a clear indication of their current page.
