Events...Behind The Scenes

Many people don’t realize what goes behind the scenes of making events come to life, in fact if we do our job properly they should never have to. Looking back on 2018 (cheesy, but I'm only human), there was one event the topped it all for me.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst

We were hired to create wedding magnets on location for a very excited couple and their guests at the gorgeous Manor Restaurant/Venue in NJ.

It was our first time servicing an event at that specific location so we left a bit early to be on the safe side.

AND Happy we did! because we were up for a treat.

We were just getting out of the Midtown Tunnel and almost merging onto I-495 W when the driver of a gigantic bus decided to change lanes from the right lane to the left lane. The only problem was…we were right there! 3 young women in an economic size car! (yes dear driver, it is highly advised to look in your mirrors before you switch lanes).

Car Accident

When we realized what was happening we started screaming (some would claim that this isn’t so beneficial…I beg to differ. It is kinda the same of being on a roller-coaster ride and keep quiet – some energy that should have been released isn’t being released – feel me?) but other than that there wasn’t much we could have done…so the bus crashed into us.

Accept the things you cannot change, and have the courage to pivot ;)

Immediately going into a rescue mode, we started debating our options?! One thing for sure is that we didn’t have the heart to call the couple just before they were walking down the aisle and tell them that we aren’t going to make it.

Magically, none of us physically got hurt so we thought let’s call an Uber and switch cars while one of us stays to unwind the situation. Very optimistic thought but reality struck…we are on a highway! There is nowhere to go and the Uber has nowhere to stop. We called the cops instead.

The cops were absolutely wonderful and arrived the scene within five minutes. Some call it Karma, some call it God, and some call it luck but no one from the bus riders got hurt and the cops were able to take us off the road to the next exit so we could file a report.

We finally finished filing the report and were excited about continuing on to the wedding.

Small tiny problem…

Our bumper is totally gone! (and currently located on the highway)

Begging to our angel cop to let us continue driving for another 15 min so at least we can get there! we packed the bumper into the car

(yes my dad thinks I’m crazy, I call it “flexible”)

One thing I've learned in my military service is "??? ?? ???? ??? ???? ??????"

Which in free translation means “the bread has hard crust, and you eat that as well”

A bit nervous and a bit shaking, we entered the prestigious Manor Restaurant with our deeply wounded car.

Yes, the Valet looked very confused. I would be too.

While our minds still processing everything that just happened and our bodies still shaking, we managed to set up and start our roaming magnet photography service on time!

Wedding Magnets

Magnet photography is a huge hit across the ocean but on a relative basis many people are yet to experience it in the States.

At this wedding as well most of the wedding guests never seen a magnet photographer in action before so they were amazed to find out that the picture we just took of them is being turned into a free photo magnet keepsake.

The next day, the newlywed couple woke up with their guests sending them pictures of their fridge covered with photo magnets from their special day.

That’s why we call it Happiness that Sticks!
