I've been baking bread the past few months using Ken Forkish's book, Flour Water Salt Yeast . Highly recommend!
Baking bread and running a business share so many similarities.
In order for me to get the bread right, I had to read the recipe numerous times and then break it down into even smaller steps than the author gave me. For my business, first I plan my goals for the year and then I break them down into smaller action steps so that I can implement them.
When I am making my dough it requires extremely detailed measurements of ingredients, temperature control, and precise timing. Similarly, when I am running my business, I am focusing on attention to detail, managing finances, marketing, sales and customer service.
Bread-making requires me to be fully present and patient, as the dough needs to rise and bake for an extended period. Similarly, my business has taken many years to build and I've had to be patient as I continually attract customers, and grow my business.
I've had to adjust my recipe several times in order to account for variations in temperature, humidity. I have also had to be adaptable, especially during the last few years because of the pandemic, and flexible in responding to changes in the market, and my clients needs.
Over the past few months I have noticed that my breads are looking and tasting the same when they come out of the oven. My consistent focus on simplicity in my business has been vital for building my brand and establishing trust with my clients.

I've definitely made some mistakes while baking bread such as, adding too much salt or not allowing the dough to rise long enough. And yes, I've also made mistakes in my business and missed the mark on my goals. In both cases, I've had to learn from my mistakes and make adjustments to improve.
Overall, while baking bread and running a business may seem like vastly different activities, they both require attention to detail, patience, adaptability, consistency, and the ability to learn from mistakes.
The act of baking bread has had a ripple effect on me to be more detail oriented than I ever was before in my business. Slowing down even the simple task and not rushing through, has helped me pay attention to my business in a more mindful way.
Bon Appétit! And remember to enjoy the process :)
