I recently wrote about Samsung revealing that their newest model... The Galaxy S24 which will feature Google Gemini-powered AI features, including AI summarisation and auto-translate over calls. You can read this here.
With so many of us in Health and Social Care working on android devices, it looks like we are set with AI options and joining the party is Leo!
Leo is Brave AI-powered assistant and it looks and behaves very much like the other AI tools, although what I have liked about Lego is that you you can ask questions, translate or summarise pages, research a topic of interest, and more.?Something not commonly available on free AI models.
Leo has been described by many tech experts as Chat GPT but safer. As far as privacy is concerned, according to Brave, "As with all of Brave's other features, privacy remains paramount for Brave Leo. Chats with Leo are private and secure. Leo doesn't record chats, or use them for model training, and no account or login is required to use Leo."
In order to protect users's privacy, Leo uses a reverse proxy, discards all responses from the Brave servers, requires no login, and works with unlinkable tokens (for the Premium version).?
Leo was first introduced on the desktop version of the Brave browser back in November 2023. Along with the free version of Leo, there is also Leo Premium, which includes access to faster and more powerful Large Language Models (LLMs) and higher-rate limits.
But for those who work primarily with an Android device, Brave hasn't left you out. By installing the latest version of Brave from the Google Play Store (or upgrading your current version), you'll find the new AI assistant built-in.
How to Use Leo?
By default, Leo is relegated to the sidebar if using it on your desktop/laptop. To summon the AI-powered assistant, you need to just type anything in the address bar, then click ‘ask Leo’ in the drop-down menu... and it will materialise in front of you on the right side of the screen.

Looking at a number of tech forums, many techies are using Brave due to the added protection.. this video showcases a transparent viewpoint of why you may want to consider using it as your new browser (especially as Chrome is due to be discontinued this year)
To use Leo on the iphone you can do this through safari, or via the Brave app. Leo is very similar to safari (apple's search engine) and Apple keep removing some of the features on the IOS app! I however still use it for the webpage summariser, which when you search, on the left hand side of the app search results is a icon which looks like paper, and it is here that provides you with great summaries of websites.
To access Leo for android, simply download and install this from the Google Play Store.
Happy AI'ing!
