Brave Were The People

Brave Were The People

Brave were the people who faced their shadows,

Brave were the people who walked toward the light.

Brave were the people who chose love,

Brave were the people who walked with God.

-

They set down their swords, they dropped their shields,

They stood vulnerable, raw wounds in fields.

They walked in love, redirecting the fight,

They looked above, removing the fright.

-

Mankind’s shadows, self inflicted,

Ours to remove,

Humans must prove.

Done alone, only you and I fit to atone.

-

Brave are the people who shine the light,

From shimmering sea to sea,

Across stark deserts, over majestic mountains.

In our cities, once proud and strong,

No shadow or wrong, can escape this song.

-

Brave are the people who serve this cause,

They walk in the light for all and no applause.

Brave are the people who choose this path,

Avoiding wrath, aligning our world in lights bath.

-

Brave are the people who stood against slavery,

Abolitionists they once were called.

Selfless action, in letters and speeches,

An underground railroad, saving people on the run,

Finally a just war within, until it was done.

-

Brave are the people who stand against homelessness

New Abolitionists will they be known.

Leaning in, removing their thrones,

Selfless service, by example shall be shown.

-

Shall you join me, my brothers and sisters?

Shall we remove this blister?upon our land?

Walk in the light, and we shall demand,

A return to dignity, for each and every one.

A new day, a new way, will bring back the sun.

Brave were the people who made this done.
