Brave Souls Raise Money for Worthy Cause

What did I do?

Back in December 2019 I signed up to participate in a charity boxing match in aid of The Ollie Foundation – a charity which seeks to prevent suicide in the young and provide counselling for those that are left behind.

This was being put on by In the Ring Events and Lisa Bates Marketing. It was even being sponsored by my own company Inciper (no pressure).

After 3 months of hard training we were all set to go in March 2020, and I don’t need to tell you what happened next!

Jumping forward to July 2020 and the event was back on – Scheduled for Saturday September 18th.

16 brave souls put themselves on the line for 3 * 2 minute rounds each in front of over 400 people at the @Alban Arena.

What made me do it?

You only live once – I firmly believe we should stretch ourselves both mentally and physically and this seemed like a great opportunity to do this whilst also raising money and awareness for a great cause.

I had also always thought it was something I would like to try – at least once.

Every day in my role @Inciper we push ourselves mentally to deliver to the best of our ability, and this would be no different.

What did it make me feel like?

Terrified and Excited – Every day in my job I am pushed very hard. This though was a whole new level, coupling this mental stress with physical activity and danger.

Putting into practice what I had been trained for had me excited. The fact that it is so physically hard made me nervous. The fact that someone else was trying to hit me is hard to put into words.

How did it go?

It was every bit as hard as I had expected @Richard Gathard was a tough opponent. I managed a knock down in the 1st round but we traded punches through the 3 rounds both landing solid blows.

In the end the judges found it to hard to call and declared a draw (though I would say I won ;) ).

Everyone involved did an amazing job putting on a show for the crowd and raising a fantastic amount in aid of an amazing cause (over ￡10k so far).

Would I do it again?

Ask me in a few months! But I would certainly recommend it to anyone else looking for a challenge.
