Brave December- Be realistic like Charlie

If you’ve ever heard me speak, you’ve probably heard me talk about my nephew, Charlie. Charlie is 9 years old, and since he was tiny, he’s been absolutely obsessed with giraffes.
As a family, we’ve all embraced Charlie’s passion in spectacular style. There’s even a 10-foot giraffe standing proudly in his back garden.
Here’s the thing: we are all born confident. As children, we have this innate self-belief that we can do or be anything we want. Young children have big, bold ambitions—like Charlie, who says when he’s an adult “I want to look after giraffes.”
But as we grow up, life has a way of chipping away at that confidence. We’re told to “be realistic,” to shrink our dreams into something smaller and safer.
The truth is, we all carry a little nine-year-old version of ourselves deep inside. That part of us still dreams of looking after giraffes, writing a children’s book, or exploring the Amazon.
And here’s the good news: if you’re reading this, you’re still alive. You are not too old, and it’s not too late to chase the dreams that make your heart happy.
My wish for you is simple: be “realistic” like Charlie. Dream big. Believe in yourself. And go after what lights you up.
Because life’s too short to settle for anything less than the joy of a 9-year-old who really loves giraffes.
