Be Brave
Barry Lewis Green
Educator, Speaker, Coach, Writer, Creator ... advancing Character Leadership and Education ... to move forward together, stronger ... engaging change.
Bravery is a Virtue; a Strength of Character. It is not the lack of fear or insecurity. It is practiced in the face of same.
We are vulnerable on purpose, and with Purpose.
It is not risk-it-all recklessness, but is meaningful Courage, in action.
It advances growth.
It advances Justice... and our sense of just cause.
It can advance Unity.
It stands for what needs to be stood for and upon.
It helps us stand our best and middle ground.
Bravery gives us the strength to stand for what is important, for ourselves and others.
We dance with, and learn to master, our insecurities.
We discern and decide as we step into uncertainty.
We practice Confidence in our innovation and originality.
We do what needs doing.
We live and work with Justice and Purpose in mind and heart.
We rise above and walk through the chaos and clamor. We move the needle on Character, Purpose and Unity.
On Being Brave
I am grateful for Bravery. It allows me to move beyond doubt. It empowers me to advance and grow and get ever better. It enables me to serve ever better; to respond ever better. There will always be change and challenge that dares us to face it. As I continue to work one to one, and in small and larger groups ... with Entrepreneurs, Educators and Emerging Leaders ... as leaders seeking to unite and inspire... to more effectively respond to change… and constructively create it... I ever increasingly understand the need for us to be brave.
Say what you need to say is about saying what truly needs to be said. It requires us to discern on that which is important to say and do. The knee jerk opinion and its expression is not about Bravery.
Bravery implies that we step out of our proverbial "comfort zone" to address what is important, in terms of our own growth in knowledge, skill, ability, and/or Character. It implies that something is truly worth our Bravery. Simple brazenness is too often about arrogance, and Bravery is not about that. It is about discerning and deciding on that which is truly important and stepping out to claim same in word and deed.

Indeed and in deed, it is about Righteousness in action, not self-righteousness. Righteousness is about us doing what is right, in our own lives. Self righteousness is about telling others what is right in theirs, according to ourselves. Doing and saying what is right and noble requires Bravery. Being self righteous is about arrogance and hubris.
So, I Ask You (and Me)
With all of that in mind and heart,, I offer some questions for us all to ponder on answers.
Yes, what would it look like to jump that hurdle, face that dragon, and do what we have not done before? As a wise man once said to me, "Courage first, Confidence second." The path to Confidence is tread with Bravety. Do that.
Peace.
