Branding and Social Media – Why You Need It & What it Involves

Your brand is one of the most important assets your business will ever have. It has the power to build relationships, increase conversion rates, be instantly recognised and demonstrate that your business is one that can be trusted. The importance of branding and social media cannot be understated and today we’re going to explain why and how you can use branding to your advantage using social media.

Importance of Branding and Social Media

Social media is quickly becoming one of the most effective tools a business can use to market itself. Done right, you can increase your visibility and make your business the first they call when they need what you sell. Done wrong and it has the potential to either be a huge disaster or a massive waste of time.

While as business owners we are good at using our brand in business cards and on our website to promote ourselves, when it comes to branding and social media, it seems that anything goes. Branding is a way of building the profile of your business, having it recognised by more people who in turn become your customers. Your branding tells people what’s different about your business from your competition and works to attract and retain loyal customers. When it comes to social media, you can reach those people, build relationships with them and develop your brand’s online presence.

How to Build Your Brand on Social Media?

All messages from your business must be consistent wherever you share them.?This goes for both visual and text messages. When building your brand consistency on social media, it takes time and effort to get past all the noise and in front of your target audience. You even need to share the same type of message across all your channels, but not necessarily a copy and paste between them. This means the same profile picture, banner, tone and templates.

To develop your brand, there are four key things to consider:

  • Your brand voice – this is dependent on your target audience. It includes your tone, the language you use and the reason why you are on social media.
  • Your audience – you must build up a solid understanding and intimate knowledge of your target audience. Their problems, likes, dislikes and wants, need to be addressed by your brand.
  • Your content – having a content strategy is so important. This helps you know what you are sharing and when. It also lets you know the content types you need to create for each channel.
  • Your design – much of social media is heavy on visual elements, such as Facebook and Instagram. It may pay to create some templates for your brand which can be used to keep it looking consistent.
