Branding Myself: A Confession

Branding Myself: A Confession

The struggle is real.

That's a different beast altogether. As someone who's spent years guiding clients through the labyrinth of branding, you'd think I'd have my own brand locked down, right?

Whoaaaaa. Branding the brander is a whole new level of tricky.

When it comes to branding, I’m a whiz. I go all in, asking the really tough questions to make a compelling case for who they are – whether it’s an individual or an organization. It's not just about being good at what you do; it's about making sure everyone knows it. It’s about taking charge of perception, steering the conversation, and showing the world why you’re the bee’s knees.

Should be smooth sailing for an old pro like me.

Well, not so much when I put myself under the branding microscope.

As I prep to launch a major overhaul my own marketing collateral (hello, new website and social media makeover!), I'm coming up against the same hurdles my clients grapple with.

It’s like being a chef who can whip up a gourmet meal but struggles to make toast at home.

The truth is, branding yourself is a wild ride. It’s like trying to cut your own hair with a blindfold on – you might have the skills, but the perspective?

What’s my unique selling point? What’s the story I want to tell? And how do I shout it from the digital rooftops without sounding like a deranged car salesman?

As I untangle my brand spaghetti, I'm reminded of a few home truths:

  1. Self-awareness is Key: Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is crucial. But damn, it’s tough to see the forest for the trees when you’re smack in the middle of the woods.
  2. Perception is Everything: You might be the best in your field, but unless you take control of your narrative, you’ll be just another name on a very long list. Shout it out, loud and proud.
  3. Steer the Conversation: Don’t let others define you. Shape your own story. But fair warning, it’s a lot easier said than done.

As I slog through the rebranding process, tearing my hair out and questioning every choice, I’m right there with you, dear friends. This isn’t just a task – it’s a journey. And just like you, I’m navigating the winding path to find my true, authentic, kickass, gotta-have brand.

So, stay tuned for The Big Reveal, coming soon. I may even share some Befores and Afters if I’m feeling particularly brave.

Cheers to the roller coaster!
