On Branding
I know whenever some people come across this topic, they either skip it or pass it on to their marketing colleagues, but the awareness of branding is necessary for every individual. Some may even be trying to build personal brands, where branding becomes all the more a priority.
In simple terms, branding is what other people or entities visually use to identify your #business. As a business, your brand is also what you use to represent your business. For clarification purposes, a brand is not a logo or colour, it is a whole array of elements that make up your brand.
The #NaijaStartups brand, for instance, includes a logo, with one of the colours representing the Nigerian symbolic colour 'green', as that is where we originated (though we aim to serve all Africans).
We also incorporated a house in our logo because startups essentially begin right from home, or at least the idea starts from one person/home. Some people even run their small businesses from their homes.
The colour combination was to ensure we catered to both female and male entrepreneurs and not just one gender or the other. Because we place a strong emphasis on branding, most, if not all of our social media content have some sort of Naija Startups branding on them. Finally, our brand itself represents community, empathy and creativity. Follow @naijastartups on Instagram to find out more about us.
