Boasting a brand-new facade as well as 263,000 sq ft of additional space, Miami Beach Convention Center reopened in 2018 following a three-year, $620 million renovation, but it's not the only building in the area to be given a facelift. The entire Collins Park neighbourhood is being treated to an overhaul with a number of historic buildings reopening as luxury hotels. Once completed, the district will be home to more than 500 hotel rooms along with rooftop swimming pools and underground speakeasies, all without distracting from the original Art Deco and Mediterranean architecture.
With many of the new hotels already open and others due to follow in the coming months, attendees of Tissue World 2020 have an exciting array of new properties to choose from. If you're attending Tissue World 2020, which takes place at Miami Beach Convention Center from 11th-13th March, read on to discover the best new hotels in Miami and access the official hotel deals from HotelMap? here.

The Plymouth South Beach
Opening its doors back in 2017, The Plymouth South Beach was one of the first Collins Park restorations to debut. The iconic landmark – recognised by its distinctive angular pylon – has hardly changed since architect Anton Skislewicz constructed it back in 1940 and today many of the original features, including the white marble lobby and Art Deco murals, remain. The original swimming pool lined with harlequin tiles and peach-toned sun beds sits within a courtyard at the heart of the hotel while other highlights include an outpost of Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill and a private beach club that's located just a short walk away.
(Opened in 2017)
Lennox Hotel Miami Beach
Housed in the building that was once the historic 1936 Peter Miller Hotel, the newly opened Lennox Hotel Miami Beach retains the original 1930s Art Deco facade and Mediterranean architecture designed by Russell Pancoast, who's credited with shaping the architectural landscape of Miami Beach. Further to the exterior, the original terrazzo floor and lobby archways remain intact but the interiors are all new. Handmade wooden furnishings from Patagonia and moss-covered walls bring the outdoors in while other brand-new elements include a courtyard swimming pool, a pool-side bar and a soon to open in-house restaurant. The hotel sits just a few streets away from the Miami Beach Convention Center, making it ideal for attendees of Tissues World 2020.
(Opened in August 2019)
Greystone Hotel
Two doors down, the Greystone Hotel is another 1930s property being given a new lease of life. Due to premiere in December, the new opening will be an adults-only boutique hotel that places modern furnishings and interiors behind the original Art Deco facade. The building's underground space has been transformed into a subterranean speakeasy while the rooftop is now home to a swimming pool and pool-side lounge. A Japanese restaurant, a whisky bar and a casual takeaway offering can also be found within the hotel along with 91 design-led, tech-savvy guest rooms.
(Opens in December 2019)
Life House Collins Parks
Following on from Life House Little Havana, Life House Collins Parks is the second Miami hotel from the New York-based, Silicon Valley-backed hotel brand. In keeping with the brand's ethos of responding to the hotel's surroundings, this new opening boasts a streamlined interior that nods to the area's Art Deco architecture as well as its lesser-known Quaker roots, resulting in a simple, stripped-back aesthetic featuring bespoke handwoven artworks set against a warm cream and maple colour palette. Works by local photographer Russel Harvey continue the brand's dedication to celebrating local artisans while 30 second iPad check-ins, complimentary high-speed WiFi and a mobile app featuring the hotel's very own social network confirm its tech credentials. The rooftop provides a sleek urban retreat with ocean and city views while the in-house restaurant, Mama Joon, takes inspiration from Lebanon, Southern Italy and Greece.
(Opened in September 2019)
Life House South of Fifth
The third Life House property due to open in the city, Life House South of Fifth continues the brand's rapid expansion, which is expected to see 20 locations open within the next year. Occupying a 1930s Tudor cottage, this design-led property takes the theme of an artist's beachside retreat with original Tudor architecture and existing historic terrazzo modernised through the use of re-salvaged stained glass, tropical foliage and a colour palette of jade, sienna and gold – a contemporary take on the primary colours. A verdant garden, a lounge with room for coworking and a trendy restaurant specialising in plant-based dishes are some of the inviting spaces found within the chic hotel.
(Opens in autumn 2019)
Axelbeach Miami
Axelbeach Miami will be the inaugural United States property from Axel Hotels – the first hotel chain in the world pitched towards the LGBT community. Due to open in the next few months, the hotel will sit within an Art Deco building that dates back to the 1940s along with three separate two- and three-storey structures. The Sky Bar is an urban oasis with a swimming pool and two jacuzzis flanked by palm trees while other hotel features will include a tapas restaurant, a fitness room and spa, and a cocktail bar.
(Opens in late 2019)
Palihouse Miami Beach
The first East Coast property from the playful Palisociety group, Palihouse Miami Beach puts the brand's quirky stamp on a restored Art Deco building located on the Indian Creek Waterway. All of the 71 rooms and studios boast a bright and cheerful design with wicker furnishings, patterned upholstery and porcelain wall art set against coral walls and tiled floors, and many come with their own retro kitchenettes. The boho Mediterranean style continues through to the common areas while the Greenbrier Swim & Social club – named after the hotel that once sat within the 1940s building – brings together a lobby lounge, outdoor swimming pool and liquor bar. Beach Butlers are on hand to arrange transport to the local beaches and hotspots.
(Opened in October 2019)
Generator Miami
Generator Miami introduced the trendy European hostel group to the US market when it opened last year. A hostel and hotel hybrid, the property is made up of both private rooms and shared dorms, but the overall feel is very much of a hip boutique hotel rather than a budget hostel. The vibrant design fuses old American glamour with a touch of Cuban spice while amenities include a poolside bar, an indoor pool bar and complimentary WiFi and bike hire. The Jim and Neesie restaurant is a trendy spot with a wide-ranging menu.
(Opened in 2018)
Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club
Combining the hospitality, cuisine and elegance of the European Riviera with the bold Art Deco design of Miami, Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club is a luxurious oceanfront hotel that promises to show guests a more sleek and refined side to Miami Beach. Crystal chandeliers, rattan furnishings and marble floors set against a navy blue and white colour palette form the chic and understated interiors that carry through from the common spaces into the rooms. There are two outdoor swimming pools as well as a private stretch of beach with games and snorkelling equipment available to hire while on-site dining includes the Donna Mare Italian restaurant and the Bungalow by the Sea with fresh seafood, wood-oven pizzas and a raw bar.
(Opened in 2018)
