Brand New Hotels for COTERIE and MAGIC New York 2022: Part Three

Discover which members' club-cum-hotel played host to Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell's Met Gala after-party in the third and final edition of our COTERIE and MAGIC New York 2022 new hotels series.

Casa Cipriani New York | Opened August 2021

15-minute drive to the Javits Center

"Members-only clubs have never been more popular", according to Travel and Leisure and "New York in particular has become an epicenter of the members club renaissance" (Surface Mag). One of the standouts is the newly opened Casa Cipriani New York, "a private members-only club that’s equal parts elegant dining hub and boutique hotel" (Architectural Digest). Housed within the Battery Maritime Building, a Beaux-Arts style ferry terminal that dates back to 1909, the club "features views of New York Harbor" (Bloomberg) and boasts multiple restaurants, "including a jazz cafe" (Architectural Digest). There's also a landscaped roof where a heated pool, restaurant and bar offer "impressive East River views" (Architectural Digest). "A place where Loro Piana Cashmere lines the walls" and "Bellinis are handed out by waiters in white jackets" (Esquire) - it's no wonder Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell chose it as the location for their Met Gala after-party.

M Social Hotel Times Square New York | Opened June 2021

The first US outpost from Millennium Hotels and Resorts, M Social Hotel Times Square New York merges "the energy of Times Square with contemporary design" (Hospitality Net). The central location makes the hotel "a hub for explorers" (Hospitality Net) with Broadway, Central Park and Fifth Avenue all within walking distance. The rooftop bar, Beast & Butterflies, is arguably the hotel's best feature with "undoubtedly one of the largest, if not THE largest terrace in New York City" (Forbes) as well as "unobstructed views of the city and the perfect vantage point for the iconic Times Square Ball Drop" (Hotel Designs). The "curated libations" (Travel and Leisure) crafted by Frank Caiafa – author of The Waldorf Astoria Bar Book – further add to the appeal.

Hard Rock Hotel New York | Opened April 2022

Occupying a "newly built slender glass tower" (New York Post) the brand-new Hard Rock Hotel is now open "at the northeast tip of Times Square" (New York Post). Designed to pay homage to Music Row, the legendary midtown Manhattan strip "where musicians would shop for drumsticks, guitars, and more" (Travel and Leisure), the hotel is "decked out in music memorabilia" (The Points Guy) and guests can request a Fender guitar to play in their room. Crosley record players are also on hand and Hard Rock has "created a special playlist of New York-themed tracks" (The Points Guy). If sport is more your thing, head to the Yankees-themed steakhouse, NYY Steak, which is "draped in all things Yankees" (Time Out) and serves "a roster of rare steaks" (Time Out).

The Moore Hotel | Opened November 2021

6-minute drive to the Javits Center

"One of the newest tenants in the Chelsea section of New York" (Hospitality Design) The Moore Hotel opened at the end of last year in the "peaceful and quirky" (Harpers Bazaar) neighbourhood. The "intimate" (Hospitality Design) boutique hotel is home to "81 minimalist guest rooms" (Vogue) that "honor the history of the Chelsea neighborhood" (Harpers Bazaar). There's a rooftop terrace that "operates a bar during the warmer months" (The Daily Beast) and offers views of the Empire State Building as well as "a surprisingly well-stocked gym" (The Daily Beast), a lobby wine bar and a café.

Pestana CR7 Times Square | Opened July 2021

14-minute walk to the Javits Center

“The world's wealthiest footballer” (The Independent), legendary Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo, chose a good time to announce the launch of his latest hotel - at the height of Euro 2020. The latest lifestyle hotel from the Manchester United forward - designed “to meet the needs of urban travelers” (Conde Nast Traveler Spain) - and found in midtown Manhattan came barely a month after the Madrid launch. The Pestana CR7 hotel brand is a collaboration between Ronaldo and “Portugal’s top hotel chain, Pestana” (The Independent), offering affordable 4-star hotels in his Madeira homeland, Lisbon and beyond. In Times Square, the hotel has a “charming design” (Conde Nast Traveler Spain) which combines “fresh and contemporary” interiors with “wonderful views... over the Hudson River” (Conde Nast Traveler Spain). As you'd expect, there's a decent fitness centre and sports games on the screens.

Fifth Avenue Hotel, New York | Opening Autumn 2022

A notable new opening to look forward to in 2022, this “seven-year, $200 million restoration” (Vogue) stands out for its “four chic restaurants” and “Gilded Age” interiors according to Architectural Digest, featuring it in their “15 Most Anticipated High Design Hotel Openings of 2022”. A combination of “a restored historic bank” (Forbes) and a “soaring new 24-story skyscraper” (Robb Report), its “lavish, jewel-tone design scheme” (Vogue) comes courtesy of Martin Brudnizki, famous for his designs at Annabel’s and The Ivy.
