The brand-new Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street sits within a gleaming 61-storey skyscraper
Four Seasons added a second Boston property to its portfolio this year with the opening of Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street. Sitting within a gleaming 61-storey skyscraper – now the third tallest building in Boston – the new opening brings 215 hotel rooms and 160 private sky residences to the city's Back Bay district. Sophisticated interiors and extensive amenities are consistent with the historic Four Seasons brand while a buzzing contemporary Japanese restaurant, high-tech in-room features and an entire floor dedicated to wellness give it millennial appeal. The spacious guest rooms are decorated in a chic neutral colour palette and all come with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer sparkling city views while further hotel facilities include a lobby bar, a second-floor restaurant, and seven meeting and event spaces, including two ballrooms.
Boston has welcomed a number of new boutique properties in recent months and The Whitney Hotel is the latest addition having opened its doors in June. Located in the historic Beacon Hill district, the hotel sits within a classic red brick townhouse that dates back to 1909. Formerly a hospital and then a B&B, the building has now been sensitively restored by Boston-based architecture firm Hacin + Associates, who added an additional 12,000 square feet in order to allow the hotel to house 65 guest rooms along with Mediterranean-influenced restaurant, Peregrine. Parquet floors, creamy cappuccino furnishings and midnight blue walls make for smartly dressed common areas while pristine white bedrooms punctuated with dark wood features and grey upholstery create a masculine yet welcoming aesthetic. There's also a courtyard garden featuring a fire pit, fountain, comfy chairs and greenery surrounded by towering red brick walls.
The Revolution Hotel has bold artworks, industrial elements and spa-like shared bathrooms
Of all the standout boutique properties that have recently opened in the city, The Revolution Hotel is one of the closest to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Housed within a listed mid-century building that was once home to one of America's first YWCAs, the youthful property greets guests with a bold pop art mural that depicts a number of historical figures – just one of the hotel's many playful artworks that are used as a homage to the innovators that hail from Boston. Tiled walls, bold colours and exposed industrial elements make up the rest of the décor while a co-working space with free coffee – open to hotel guests and paying members of the public alike -– a fitness centre and complimentary breakfast are some of the amenities. The property has joined the boutique bunk bed trend with a number of group-sized private rooms and shared bathrooms. These are more spa-like than hostel, however, with stylish, individual bathrooms featuring a mirror, sink, toilet and shower within its own lockable room. For those who prefer more privacy, there are a number of compact bedrooms with their own small en suite.
Down the road from The Revolution, Staypineapple Boston, A Delightful Hotel is the first East Coast property from the Seattle-based boutique hotel chain. Sitting with a 20th-century brick building, the property pairs vintage fittings with contemporary accents, including cheery pineapple prints and bright yellow robes. The lively in-house bar and restaurant, The Trophy Room, serves comfort food and craft cocktails. Nearby, Found Hotel Boston Common is pitched towards those looking for affordable luxury with a modern take on the hostel concept. Featuring 66 private rooms and two shared rooms, the property caters to guests seeking the traditional hotel experience as well as solo travellers wanting something more social. The two shared rooms have four bunk beds and their own bathrooms while the private options offer everything from singles to double queens. All are equally stylish with walnut furnishings, herringbone floors, deep blue wallpaper and white-tiled bathrooms.
Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall has a food hall-inspired restaurant and a large lobby bar
Another notable new boutique property, Studio Allston is a showcase of local and national talent with the works of 22 artists on display. Billed as an art gallery as well as a hotel, the property is made up of rooms and public spaces that each feature their own unique, custom-made murals and artworks. These come together with mid-century modern architecture (the hotel sits with a building dating back to 1966) and furnishings to create a hip, aesthetically-pleasing space. The in-house restaurant, Casa Ca?a, references the neighbourhood's Hispanic community with Latin-inspired dishes and a rum bar along with a pleasant courtyard patio featuring gas fire pits, cushioned sofas and fairy-lit trees.
Part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, The Row Hotel at Assembly Row offers boutique individuality along with big-brand comforts. Located just outside Boston, in the city of Somerville, the hotel is part of the new Assembly Row development, which sits on a former Ford Motor's assembly plant. The interiors pay homage to the area's manufacturing history with a large spiral staircase that's flanked by glass and galvanised metal just one of the industrial elements. Sculptures made using repurposed auto parts further reference the site's history. The stylish guest rooms are dressed in handsome, monochrome interiors and come fully-equipped with all the creature comforts, including large work spaces, smart TVs and Illy espresso machines, while the onsite restaurant, Reflections, offers all-day dining in a sophisticated industrial-inspired setting.

CitizenM introduced its quirky interiors and lifestyle hotel concept to Boston this summer with the opening of its first property in the city and its third in the United States. The Amsterdam-born brand is famed for offering affordable accommodation without compromising on style or substance, and the new CitizenM Boston North Station is no different with the tagline 'luxury for the wise, not the wealthy'. Like all CitizenM properties, there's a huge communal living room filled with designer furnishings, comfortable work spaces and a constant buzz while the guest rooms come with everything you need and nothing you don't – you can expect a large, comfortable bed, a rainfall shower, complimentary WiFi and free movies. The 24/7 canteen serves a range of hot and cold dishes along with beer and cocktails, and there's also an outdoor roof terrace overlooking the city's skyline.
With a food hall-inspired restaurant and a big lobby bar, Hyatt Centric Faneuil Hall is another hotel putting a strong focus on drinking, dining and socialising. Bar Mercato takes inspiration from the food halls and markets of Europe and South America with a varied menu of charcuterie, pasta and meat dishes while the lobby bar transforms from coffee spot by day to cocktail den by night – a popular spot among bankers given the hotel's financial district location.

Located outside the city, across the harbour in Everett, Encore Boston Harbour brings a taste of Las Vegas glitz and glamour to Massachusetts. Part of Wynn Resorts, the lavish $2.6 billion property comprises a 671-room five-star hotel along with twelve restaurants, two bars, a nightclub, a full-service spa and the first Wynn casino outside of Las Vegas. The sprawling casino has everything you would expect from a Vegas casino with more than 3,000 slot machines, table games and poker tables all sitting under 40-foot ceilings decorated with Red Rubino chandeliers. Dining options range from an elegant Asian restaurant and steakhouse to a burger bar and Dunkin' donut bakery while the vast spa offers an array of treatments in a theatrical European-inspired setting.
