Brand Management in Wartime
At a time when companies are tripping over themselves to figure out how to manage their reactions to the Israel Hamas war, luxury fashion house Dior deserves an A+.
Supermodel Bella Hadid has expressed anti-Israel views and made a number of Pro-Palestinian without condemning Hamas's October 7th atrocities. But the icing on the antisemitic cake was when her father, Mohamed Hadid, who has a large social media following of his own (1M+ on Instagram), began posting antisemitic comments in which he compared Zionists to Hitler. According to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, comparing Jews and the Jewish nation to Nazi Germany falls under the official definition of anti-semitism .
Now back to Dior. Rather than doing what many big companies tend to do amid a crisis like this (take their time to put out a tepid statement followed by slow action), Dior kicked into high gear. Today they replaced Bella Hadid not just with any model, but with an Israeli supermodel. May Tager is the new face of Dior. Talk about a fast and class act. Way to manage your brand, Dior!

1 年Timing can be everything.... in this case it certainly proves true. Unfortunately Dior not actively elect to do that strategically or fire /replace. Hadid's contract with the luxury fashion house actually ended in fall of 2022 [I think] but certainly, long before the latest attacks and outbreak of war. Yes... they did hire Tager, an Israeli model, as one of several new girls appearing the 2023 holiday campaign and perception is that they took a highly strattgic brand stance, but I believe it was actually more happenstance.
