Brain injury awareness

Brain injury awareness

We have recently hosted our brain injury awareness sessions, which were conducted by two of our fantastic volunteers Sidra Baroudi and Melody Cowle. The main topic for the sessions was 'Managing Emotions'. This was split into a variety of subtopics which were:

  1. What is self identity?
  2. How can identity change after an ABI?
  3. What are the wider impacts of identity?
  4. How to overcome challenges
  5. Learning about changes inside that no one else can see, how to adjust to them and how to communicate with others.
  6. The anatomy of the brain.
  7. Facts about acquired brain injuries and understanding how common an ABI is
  8. Impacts on cognition and physical abilities
  9. Social and emotional impacts of a brain injury
  10. Strategies for overcoming these impacts

Both sessions had great attendance, and it was clear that clients felt well informed with the knowledge they needed to understand how an ABI can affect someone mentally and physically. It was an eye - opening experience to hear the goals people had for the future, whether it be getting back to work or making new friends, everyone's story was different.

We look forward to hosting our next sessions soon.
