Gary Anna Retirement
After 37 years on the Hilltop, Gary Anna has decided to retire. His last official day as Senior Vice President for Business Affairs will be July 31; although he promises that he will always be available to take our phone calls when his knowledge or wisdom is needed. I'd like to note that he didn't ask my opinion on this decision, because he knows I would have asked him to stay. Nonetheless, nobody deserves a long and happy retirement more than Gary Anna. All of us who have worked with and benefitted from him wish him well.
Gary has had a profound impact on this university. He was a student at Bradley in the early 1970s and graduated in 1974 with a degree in accounting. He started working at Bradley in 1981 as the university's controller. A few years later, Gary moved into his current role. Along the way, he served as interim president and has been a trusted advisor and friend to me as well as many others.
I believe a strong case can be made that in the 121-year history of this university, nobody has had a more profound impact or done more to make this the great university it is, except, of course, for Mrs. Bradley herself. With that said, I would like you to hear from Gary himself what his 37 years at Bradley have meant to him.
Farewell from the Vice President for Business Affairs
?It seems like only yesterday...
Many collegians have great memories, but my undergraduate experience at Bradley was enhanced by 37 years as an employee. It seems like only yesterday...
General Counsel Hired
I am very happy to welcome Erin Kastberg to the Bradley family as the very first Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel. Erin is a Wisconsin native who earned her undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and her law degree from the University of Iowa. She most previously worked in the Office of the General Counsel for the University of Wisconsin system. Erin is responsible for the management of all legal issues affecting the University and serves as the university's primary legal representative. She advises me, the Board of Trustees, the Provost, Vice Presidents, Directors, faculty and staff on a wide range of issues, including contracts, student affairs, risk management and insurance, policy development, personnel and employment issues. She officially started her role with us on June 1, and her office is on the 2nd floor of Swords Hall (formerly Gary Anna's office). I am thrilled to have her as the newest member of the Administrative Council.
New AVP for Budgeting
Demetrius Carmichael, Assistant Vice President for Budgeting & Planning, will begin on July 1 as part of the Provost's office. Demetrius received his MBA with a concentration in accounting from St. Thomas University and his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas- San Antonio. He is a CPA with more than 15 years of experience in Higher Education and 10 years in the corporate sector. Most recently, he served as Director of Finance at the University of Louisville.
Nursing Accreditation
Congratulations to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, which received accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). This is a highly respected commission, and this accreditation adds more prestige to our already popular and successful program. Read more about the accreditation online.
Mrs. Bradley Statue
You have most likely heard that the Lydia Moss Bradley statue in Founder's Circle was hit by a car and will need repairs. Luckily, no one was injured, and the statue did not sustain major damage. Sculpture professor Fisher Stolz is working on it, and we hope Mrs. Bradley will be back in her rightful place in a few weeks. You can follow along on social media and post your favorite memories of the statue with #GetWellSoonLydia.
Smith Career Center Career Outcomes
We emphasize the importance of getting the right students on campus, but let's not lose sight of the importance of their success once they leave. Our career outcomes rate for the 2016-2017 baccalaureate graduating class is 92 percent. That's right in line with our five-year (93 percent) and ten-year (92 percent) averages. We also shine when it comes to our knowledge rate (i.e., the percentage of graduates about whose whereabouts and careers we know) and have contacted, surveyed, and/or researched 1,065 of our 2016-17 graduates successfully. This has resulted in a 95 percent knowledge rate, which is considerably higher than the national recommended minimum knowledge rate of 65 percent. Find out more about our knowledge rate online.
Business and Engineering Complex
There is no rest for the crews working on the Business and Engineering Complex construction project. During the next 30 days, starting on the lower levels of the east half of the building, they will install structural steel that will rise above Burgess Hall. They will also be roughing out the bracing for the interior walls and enclose the exterior walls on the first floor. Installation of the new steam and chilled water piping system will begin underground on the south side of the building, along with installation of new storm and sanitary piping on the west side. You can see the progress on our webcam.

Congratulations to the newest Bradley University emeriti faculty and staff. Emeriti status is a designation conferred on those whose service to Bradley is among the very best and whose contributions to the academic mission are extraordinary.
