Bracing For The Next Breakthrough

“Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future.”?Niels Bohr
“When nothing is sure, everything is possible.”?Margaret Drabble
In the area of science and technology no one can really determine what will occur in the next moment. The scenario is somewhat comparable to the stock market where experts analyze price trends in a bid to obtain an accurate forecast. But stock market forecasts are right sometimes and wrong sometimes. Just like an emergency that interrupts our normal lives, there is no early sign or prior notice that alerts people about technological breakthroughs.
It doesn't require the wizardry of a stargazer for anybody to foretell the emergence of new ideas and findings that would change the world because there is never a shortage of unrelenting individuals brainstorming to find solutions to life's problems, curious persons studying nature in greater detail, or some scientist doing research in the recesses of some lab, hidden away somewhere.
Of course nobody likes being caught unawares but what can a man do about scientific advances in a life that is full of too many uncertainties? Even now a scientific breakthrough is developing, and it could be so earthshaking enough to jolt even the most dyed-in-the-wool science denier out of unconsciousness. In view of that ingenious new invention which has the potential to scuttle our plans and projections, there is need for increased anticipation in order to be able to withstand any impact that might arise.
History has shown over and over again that scientific progress is unstoppable. After discovering through his telescope that the Moon's surface isn't smooth, Galileo Galilei was overjoyed to achieve such a great scientific breakthrough, not knowing that Neil Armstrong would actually set foot on the Moon's surface years later. Such is the extent of the unpredictableness which exists in this mysterious world of ours.
That is why scientists are discovering natural phenomena that were previously unknown and breaking new grounds every time. And this is not about “pushing the limits of science,” as we usually say because in reality, scientific progress has no limit. Any scientist who has stumbled upon unprecedented discoveries while performing experiments would be able to relate well with this.

The craziest thing about the greatest inventions is that most of them were not conceived by the aging, gray haired professor working at a university. Indeed people are already wary of anything coming out of the world's top labs, but it might not even be new breakthroughs from them that would startle us, it is breakthroughs which would emerge from the unlikeliest quarters that would blow everyone away. And the possibilities are just too numerous such that there will always be new technologies that will miss the eyes of any keen watcher of new technological developments.
How desktop computers which were so ubiquitous while they reigned supreme, quickly turned into obsolete technology with the arrival of notebook computers still baffles technology observers till this moment. It seems like a dream, as if it all happened overnight. Right before the eyes of most people alive today, electronic mail barged in and promptly edged out postal services just like that. Causing a stir is Cryptocurrency, another marvellous invention among many other innovative ideas changing the world.
Long ago since they first appeared, electric vehicles haven't been able to challenge fuel-powered vehicles but with the increased focus on solid-state battery it is becoming crystal clear that it won't be long before fuel-powered vehicles become history. All these unforeseen developments are part of the sobering realities of life which every generation has to grapple with.
It is easy to assume that mankind is able to handle any earthshaking discovery that might spring up because such incidents had occurred in the past, but no one knows for sure whether mankind will be able to do this all the time. The Coronavirus outbreak has taught people a big lesson that crisis will arise that the world will not be prepared for despite having experienced similar occurrences in the past. When you consider how top health experts and reputable scientists continue to get their predictions wrong in the face of the rampaging covid-19 pandemic, the point becomes all the more clearer.?Just as there are still more harmful microorganisms around waiting for a chance to break out, so also there are more technological breakthroughs waiting to happen at any moment.
We are living in a strange world that is so complicated that even though mankind has made numerous discoveries, we can still make countless new findings and there will be a lot more that we still don't know. And just as there are always gainers and losers on the stock market everyday, there are always gains and losses resulting from scientific breakthroughs. Everyone's fortune depends on the decisions they take and how they play their game.
Hopefully all the uncertainties would produce more innovativeness, galvanize us to research further and challenge people to think better.
