BQ's 2022 Word of the Year - Simplify

BQ's 2022 Word of the Year - Simplify

I like to be busy. I like to think about new things to do and try. Some things are great fun and work out well. Others that sound like good ideas aren't. I've tried several new ventures and approaches over the last two years and found myself pretty frustrated towards the end of 2021 because I didn't have the time or resources to develop these ideas into what I envisioned them to be. It took some good coaching for me to realize that I had begun to express my frustration towards the people in my life who require more of my attention in this phase of their lives.

The result? I decided to simplify my business offerings. Not only would I make it easier to work with me, I would also make it easier for me to work! I want to have the time and flexibility to be there for others without resentment. I am doubling down on my virtual coaching, with new certifications in various Hogan assessments in addition to my Gallup-certification for Strengths Coaching. I am well on my way to International Coach Federation (ICF) accreditation. I am simplifying my technology through automation so I can spend more time with clients. And I find myself breathing a sigh of relief as we enter 2022.

What can you simplify in 2022? Perhaps you have too many standing meetings that are no longer adding value but take time to prepare for and attend. Perhaps your closets at home need to be purged so you can actually find things when you look for them. Perhaps your mind needs decluttered so you can focus on the things that are most important to you. Whatever you decide to do, be intentional and strategic by asking yourself these questions:

  • What is bogging me down instead of propelling me forward? What can I let go of that will help me get moving?
  • Where do I need to invest (money, time, energy) to meet my future goals? What do I need to let go of that will keep me on the right path?
  • Are my investments aligned with my values? Do I have the money, time, and/or energy to invest in the things that matter most to me?
  • Where am I struggling to be engaged or authentic, but I am not sure why?

Not sure how to answer these questions or even get started? A professional coach can support you on your journey.

So important to get crisp on where you want to focus. To say yes to more of the things we love to do, we have to start saying no to the things that are just okay.
