The concept of emotional labor was introduced by Arlie Hochschild in her book “The Managed Heart” It refers to the energy spent in managing your emotions to meet the expectations of your job.
Emotional labor is invisible, but its impact isn’t. If left unchecked, it can lead to burnout, frustration, and even disconnection from the work we once loved.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Here’s how you can reduce the weight of your emotional labor:
Emotional labor is part of what makes us great at what we do. It allows you to build trust and make impactful connections. But remember not to let it take more than you’re willing to give.

With tech like AI, ML, and cybersecurity booming, the competition for skilled professionals is getting fierce. McKinsey predicts that 87% of companies will face skill gaps by 2025.
A balance of developing existing talent and reaching out to passive candidates who aren’t actively job-hunting could be the sweet spot.
2. The Hybrid Work Debate
Companies are still figuring out the balance between office time and flexibility. Some big names are pushing employees back into the office, though most people want to stay remote.?
As recruiters, you need to adapt and make sure you’re offering what candidates really want. If you can offer a hybrid model, make sure to highlight it to attract top talent.
3. Tapping Into Passive Candidates

5. Salary Transparency
Salary transparency is no longer optional. More candidates are demanding it, and with pay transparency laws popping up worldwide, it’s something we all need to take seriously. Companies that hide salary info risk losing out on top talent.
Tip: Start including salary ranges in your job postings. This will attract candidates, it will also build trust, and show you’re committed to fair pay practices.
