BPM - the People part of it
Your colleagues & Process Mapping
In the world of BPM, a world dominated by logic and symbols and standards and rules , every good thing you achieve will be very little to do with your software or your standards and everything to do with the people involved in the roll out and delivery.
At multiple levels of your organisation you will depend on people “getting it” - and that is one of the key areas you need to focus your own time on and that of your colleagues.
Allow your passion to come through
Be passionate and be informed in your sharing of the benefits of BPM. This stuff is geeky for sure but you have to let that geeky outlook power a broader enthusiastic vision of how a fully fledged BPM delivery can act as a catalyst for so many elements of your business or organisation.?
Understand the importance of communication
Learn to communicate effectively. You have to align to the corporate way but allow your excitement at a library of completed process maps to shine through.?
Take the time to understand the world of key divisions in the business and adapt your messaging to hit home with them. Bring out the key points relevant to their responsibilities.

BMP teams are part of change within corporate and within the change arena the truism is that you can’t over-communicate. You need to use multiple channels and multiple message variants to allow for the human tendency to not pay attention or to be too busy to.
Effective simplicity is challenging to achieve
Learn to hit the right level early on in a conversation or meeting - never forget that the majority of things you take for granted within business process mapping and management are usually misunderstood or not known at all by your colleagues. So work simply and logically through your explanations and answers so a common baseline of knowledge is slowly developed.
Conversely you made need to step up and explore the broader possibilities within BPM and its use - the balance here is generating interest without ignoring the time and resources that are usually required for delivery.?
Nurture and support your most vital colleagues
Finally properly support your extended team of colleagues in mapping and Business Analyst work if you are using the hub and spoke model. That is not just the bare minimum of an FAQ and self help - it is one to one mentoring and support calls or meetings when they are required.?
They deserve your full support and the ones who are going to be good or great mappers and BA’s will repay your focus on their needs.?
