Boys & Men Are In Crisis without Help: Help Me Write a book on Anorexic and Bulimic Males: Your Personal Input as a Professional & as a Patient Wanted
I had a mom come to me for some help for her anorexic son - 20-years-old because there wasn't a program out there that he was willing to enter.
I had heard that boys as young as 8 were being afflicted with eating disorders, but I never knew much about the problem. I have worked with many young women who had anorexia, bulimia or both for the past 17 years with all of them overcoming their illnesses and never looking back after 6 months of treatment. There are many reasons for this result given the manner in which I created the treatment protocol.
But, this is the main reason for the post. I am writing a book for the anorexic and bulimic male in lay language. From my research, there is a medical textbook out there for over $100 written in 2020 and a couple of other books that are really old. There are some videos on Youtube most going back 6 years or more, and precious few peer-reviewed studies to get data from.
So it would be most helpful to hear from medical and mental health professionals out there who have worked with anorexic and bulimic boys and men to talk about whether you have had any such clients come to you for help and what if anything you did for them. If you are up to help me with this practical research please message me and we will set up a video call through the internet.
If you are a teacher and had such students in your class- how did you handle the situation and what was the outcome of your intervention?
AND I ESPECIALLY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU ARE A MALE DEALING WITH THESE ILLNESSES:
If you are a teen or college-aged guy or an adult man who has this problem, I would love you to tell me a bit about your story:
How did you come to understand that you had one or both of these illnesses?
Whom did you speak to, to get help with it?

Did that person take you seriously - or did they look at your body and tell you that you had a normal weight and that there was nothing wrong?
What was your response to that answer, if you received it?
What are you looking for in a program for having your illness treated?
What were the experiences you did have in a conventional eating disorder treatment program - either inpatient or outpatient and how did it work for you? Please be honest on this one!
What parts of the programs did you find helpful?
What parts of the program did you find offensive or unhelpful and why?
I thank anyone in advance for helping out with this rather important project since 1 in 3 males with anorexia or bulimia will kill themselves because there are few people even in the medical and psych professions who even understand what is going on with these boys and men.
***Any patients who are willing to set up a time for us to speak about their experiences are welcome. Just message me and we will set up a time to have the conversation as your input is the most important input so far as I am concerned.
