Boxkite is 1 year old!
Happy Birthday to Us!! (Is it me or is GPT spacing out the turbine blades better these days?)

Boxkite is 1 year old!

We launched the Boxkite analysis platform commercially a year ago. Here's a quick look back at our first 12 months.

People like it!

That's some serious hub height on those turbines

It all sounds appealing to do wind farm energy yield in minutes, with minimal configuration, high accuracy, anywhere in the world, onshore or offshore. It is still change though, and even good changes can be a risk.

It turns out that people find Boxkite very useful indeed. Over the last year, our users have analysed nearly two terawatts of projects worldwide. For context, that's about double the total global installed wind power capacity.

We get some great feedback too: "Gorgeous" "Seriously impressive" "Amazing" "Cool".

Serving the whole market

Boxkite delivers powerful results at the smaller scale as well

Our users are analysing some of the world's largest projects.

Brag-a-watts are nice, but let's not overlook the small projects though - those who are essentially not served by the consultancy sector at all. We're pleased and proud every time Boxkite is used for those single 100kW turbines on remote islands and community projects.

So for projects both big and small, a huge thanks to our clients who share our vision, using Boxkite for wind farms all over the world. It is a pleasure working with you.

Reaping the automation upsides

Before starting Boxkite we each had more than 20 years experience analysing wind farms by hand, mostly in consultancies. This type of analysis, with desktop software, spreadsheets, text files and python code (VBA anyone?!) requires huge experience for every decision.

How could a totally automatic approach match that?

Handmade furniture is rare these days

Unfortunately by hand, much of the effort is spent on repetitive tasks, not imparting wisdom. Hand analysis also brings challenges of quality control, consistency, update costs and validation studies. It is a highly skillful art, but cumbersome.

Contrast that with full automation. Total consistency throughout development, instant results, and immediately scalable across projects worldwide.

To the energy analysis consultancies out there, if you'd like to sell wisdom rather than be bogged down in repetition, get in touch.

Very accurate anyway

In any case, it turns out that a fully automated analysis path is also highly accurate. How do we know this though?

Because we test, validate and calibrate relentlessly. In fact for every GW of wind power our clients analyse, we've already done several times that amount of validation work to prove that our technical methods follow best practice and are highly accurate compared to real wind farms. We've run validations at most offshore wind farms in Northern Europe, more than 500 US onshore projects, many more in Australia, Sweden and elsewhere.

In the next 12 months I hope that Boxkite will deliver higher accuracy than hand analysis, do so in minutes, and that we'll have the validation data to prove it.

The ever expanding feature set

All the world's a transmission network

Driven by our users, we've released new features continuously over the last 12 months.

Alongside robust energy yield calculations, Boxkite now designs realistic and buildable layouts, completes IEC site conditions with every yield analysis and provides monthly hindcasts for every project. We have global data layers for terrain and bathymetry, flow conditions, transmission systems and more.

In the coming months we will be releasing a host of new features, spanning mast data analysis, high resolution wind mapping and operational wind farms. Watch this space!

Try Boxkite

One year on, we're proud of what we've achieved, grateful for those who have put their trust in us, and excited about the year ahead.
