Boxing makes an impact: GB Boxing aiming to make a social difference

At UK Sport we’re on a mission to create the greatest decade of extraordinary sporting moments; that reach, inspire and unite the nation. This includes supporting the World Class Programmes we fund as they use the platform of their sport to champion change.

One World Class Programme attempting to do this is GB Boxing?

?As a leading force in British Olympic sport, GB Boxing boasts an impressive track record of nurturing talent, with 14 squad members clinching medals across the last three Olympic Games in London, Rio, and Tokyo.?

Beyond their sporting achievements, GB Boxing is on a mission to utilise boxing to improve social capital among young people and communities.

How are GB Boxing championing change?

At GB Boxing they’ve set out the aim of identifying a charity partner to work alongside, with the aims of creating opportunities that can help to tackle societal challenges, like the improvement of social capital, head-on while promoting inclusivity and empowerment.

What is social capital?

Social capital encompasses relationships, resources, and opportunities that shape individuals' lives. Unfortunately, many young people lack access to these essential elements, hindering their ability to fulfil their potential.

GB Boxing is aiming to bridge this gap alongside a charity partner, focused on enhancing social capital and expanding opportunities for all.

What are the objectives of the charity partnership?

  • Raising awareness: Shedding light on the crucial role of social capital in improving lives.?
  • Showcasing impact: Demonstrating how sport, in this case boxing, can be a catalyst for positive change.?
  • Supporting partners: Amplifying the work of GB Boxing and its charity partner.?
  • Enabling strategic change: Developing a cohesive approach for societal improvement.?
  • Engaging an organisation: Inspiring athletes and staff to actively participate.?
  • Promoting the sport: Encouraging more individuals to engage in boxing and experience its transformative power.

What are GB Boxing looking to achieve?

The team at GB Boxing recognise that true change requires collaboration. By teaming up with a charity partner, they’re hoping to leverage its resources and access to a high performing sport, alongside the expertise of its charity partner, to address the improvement of social capital amongst young people.

Know an organisation who could support?

Located in Sheffield and South Yorkshire, GB Boxing is keen to work with partners who share its commitment to reaching all corners of the community and believe in the transformative potential of sport. Organisations interested in collaborating with GB Boxing must meet specific criteria:

  • Registered UK charity with a presence in Sheffield City Region or South Yorkshire.?
  • Strong governance policies.?
  • Track record in social capital initiatives, particularly with young people and disadvantaged communities.?
  • Commitment to collaborative events and initiatives.?
  • Proven professionalism and results-oriented approach.

If you know a suitable potential partner that could apply, reach out and connect them with GB Boxing .
