Boxing Day Sales – Before You Part with Your Cash or Card

Boxing Day Sales – Before You Part with Your Cash or Card

Retailers are getting set up for the boxing day sales now. Some department stores actually import junk to sell on this day. Consumers have been educated to expect a sale, so now we wait in anticipation.

I hear of people lining up hours before the store opens to be the first in. They come out with a heap of what I call impulse buys. These are always the things left at the end of the season. The sizes are limited or stock might be damaged. This is where we might consider that it will fit with a 2-3kg weight loss. Is there a woman on the planet who does not want to release 2-5kg? I’m still waiting to find one. You know the end of this story eh? She buys the garment and never drops the kgs. The garment is in the wardrobe with the swing tag still attached.

I have to admit, I really don’t like the end of year sales. I don’t even like the madness of the lead up to Christmas.  One of my friends gave me a tip on the best time to hit the shopping centres during the day. I told her there was not time that was good. The queue on Dandenong Rd to get into Chadstone is crazy! Everything we needed to purchase we have done in our local strip shopping centre.  Support your local retailers or risk losing them. Have you noticed the number of vacant shops about lately? They are likely to be cheaper than the shopping centres.

So, before the sales begin, make a list like Santa. What is it that you need? New runners? Gym gear? A new briefcase for work? Make your list and stick to it. That way you are unlikely to react to what is in front of you at the sale. I’m on a mission to pick up some lovely Christmas decorations for our little tree, a long sleeve top to wear to and from the gym and some bone china mugs for tea. I detest drinking out of thick mugs. Yuk.

In any event, brace yourself and take care out there!
