Bow seized from Indonesian terror suspect's South Sumatra home
PALEMBANG CITY: Indonesia’s counterterror force seized a bow, dozens of books and three jackets bearing symbols of a certain organisation from the house of a suspected terrorist from the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror network in Palembang City, South Sumatra province, according to reports.?
The Indonesian National Police’s Densus 88 antiterror team made the seizures during a search operation of the house of the terror suspect identified only by his initials, IR, and nickname Ibad, aged 30.?
Tuesday’s operation was carried out at the house located at the Tanjung Barangan Asri complex, local media reported in Bahasa Indonesia.?
The head of the area’s neighbourhood watch, Sukarya Darmawan, confirmed the operation and seizures.?
Sukarya said he witnessed the search and seizure firsthand because the Densus 88 troops had asked him to be a witness along with the head of the local community leader.?
"Yes, only the two of us (civilians) were asked to witness the search and seizure of three types of items by the Densus team," he said when met at the location as reported by Antara.??
From the information conveyed to Sukarya, IR is a suspected JI terrorist who was arrested by Densus 88 in Lampung province a few days ago.?
He also said that IR had left the Tanjung Barangan Asri complex for about a year.?
Previously, he continued, the person concerned was known by local residents to teach the Koran every day and actively participated in all activities at the local mosque. ?
"He was a kind, friendly and generous person, and often distributed soy milk to residents. He regularly held community activities such as recitation, thanksgiving, and celebrations. IR never allowed his face to be photographed," recalled Sukarya.?
JI was tagged in the 2002 Bali bombings that took 202 lives and injured 209 more.
