Boundaries with Work: Identify Where You Need Them

Boundaries with Work: Identify Where You Need Them

Overwhelm: an issue?all my clients?talk about.

This is what happens when you don't have boundaries in place.

You will be running around managing up, managing down, playing whack-a-mole with emails, voicemails, whatsapps, working late, or feeling bad about leaving on time, checking emails before bed.

You know that things shouldn't be this way. You can see what everyone else is doing wrong, but the biggest phrase that goes around in your head is "But how!!"

When you are in it, it's very hard to see that what is keeping you feeling overwhelmed is your own lack of boundaries around how you interact with work. You aim to do all of the things, for everyone, all of the time.

You are perpetually reacting.

You think that?is the job. It isn't.

Maybe that worked for you in the early days of your career, but you have moved up (and life outside work has developed too).

Your relationship to work needs to evolve.

You will find life easier if you can shift from reacting to responding.

If you continue to operate without these boundaries, the cycle of overwhelm will persist, leaving you feeling constantly behind. But imagine if you could reclaim your time, focus on what truly matters, and lead with clarity and confidence.

My clients are using coaching to get the boundaries in place that will help them be better leaders, more insightful inter-personal communicators and, most-importantly of all, to feel that they have capacity to handle all the work ups and downs instead of overwhelmed.

Here's a question to consider.

Where do?you need a new boundary in place?

Keep that in mind as you go through this week and see if there are fruitful areas that you can identify for the personal development and self-care that will help you to grow your authority and professional reputation.

How to ask your employer to fund your coaching.

If you have a plan to ask your employer to pay for your coaching but aren't sure how to ask I've created a list of prompts you can download to craft a bid that will get a yes.

Have a great week,
