"Boundaries are for people without imagination…"

I’ll let you think about that for a moment.

It’s a phrase that I’ve used to guide my life and decisions for many years now.

?Our human condition is to hold yourself back due to fear or lack of confidence, which stalls imagination.

?Here today, I want you to let go of everything holding you back.

?You must all have dreams... dreams of success, a good life, a happy family. Now is the time to remove those boundaries, dream big, and make it happen.

?So I started to ask myself, why are legends constrained by their own boundaries?

?Acute self-awareness:

True talent knows their strengths and weaknesses inside out. They get caught up in the dance of humility and self-critique.?

Fear of Misinterpretation:

They worry that self-promotion will come off as arrogance. So, they prefer to let their work do the talking.

Epic Standards:

They hold themselves to unattainable standards, which is often what has made them so successful.

Different Priorities:

They’re busy changing the world, not updating their status.

Imposter Syndrome: And the kicker is, even the greats doubt themselves. This one I am very guilty of.

Funny thing is, they are selfless and willingly promote others’ achievements.

What worries me is that these types of people can get overlooked because they just quietly get on with the show.

If you’re a legend, maybe it’s time to embrace a bit of swagger. The world needs to hear from you.

Here are some words of advice from me to all of you…

Authenticity is Your Superpower:

We want to hear more from you. You speak from epic expertise.

Quiet Roar: Focus less on volume. Be selective about who you need to build relationships with.

Practice: Yep, this one hurts. Get comfortable talking about yourself. Do not practice in front of the kids—they are brutal.

Keep Tally:

Jot down your wins as you go. This helps drown out your doubts.

To add to this, I would like to share some personal anecdotes and experiences that highlight the importance of pushing past these self-imposed boundaries.

During my tenure as the CIO at The O2 in London, I was surrounded by remarkable talents.

?Watching bands like the Rolling Stones and Prince perform live was awe-inspiring. But what truly stood out to me was how these legends, despite their immense talent and success, still grappled with self-doubt and humility. An example of this was seeing Mick Jagger constantly checking his appearance in the mirror backstage.

?One instance that remains etched in my memory is the day The O2 opened its doors to the public.

?Standing at the front door, I watched thousands of people stream in, excited to witness Bon Jovi’s opening concert.

?It was a moment of validation for me—a culmination of hard work, imagination, and the courage to dream big.

?In our professional journeys, we often encounter moments that challenge our confidence and push us to question our capabilities.

These are the times when we must remind ourselves of our unique strengths and the impact we can create.

?Embracing authenticity and leveraging our true potential can help us overcome the hurdles of self-doubt and self-imposed boundaries.

?Don’t wait to be asked, as the world can pass you by. Get going, get moving, and go show the world why you rock!

?In conclusion, remember that your unique qualities, your humility, and your dedication to excellence are what make you stand out. Your boundaries don’t define you. Break through them.

?Embrace your authenticity and share your story with confidence. The world needs to hear from legends like you.
