Boundaries, Finding Balance, and Mindset

Boundaries, Finding Balance, and Mindset

Well, well, well.... we meet again, Monday.

Did your day start like this?

The alarm rings

Your first thought is, oh please no...

Before your feet even hit the floor, that familiar, UUUGH is brewing in your chest.

Your eyes are barely open and you're already stressing over what you have to do how you'll get it all done, and when or if you'll ever have time to slow down.

I remember those days and they were awful.

That's no way to start your day or your week, so let's find a better way, shall we?

Instead of waking up already focusing on everything you have to but don't want to do, preparing to jump into the day like you're about to run the Boston marathon, and wishing you could hide from your job and your family, wouldn't it feel so much better to want to get up because you know you've got the time, energy, and brain space to kick butt at work and be present with your family?

The Truth About Overwhelm and Mindset

Overwhelm doesn’t just happen because you’re busy. It happens because of the way you’re thinking about everything on your plate. When your brain is in overdrive, telling you that you can’t handle it all or that you have no choice but to say yes to extra work, miss your kid's hockey game, or even keep everything "perfect", you stay stuck in the cycle of overthinking that leads to more stress and burnout.

You don’t have to live that way, my friend.

The Power of Boundaries and Balance

This is where setting boundaries and creating balance come into play. Boundaries are not about saying no to everything or avoiding people. They’re about protecting your time, energy, and peace so that you can show up excited and energized about the things that matter most to you.

Balance isn’t about being perfect. It’s about knowing when to dig in and when to make time for rest and relaxation.

Let me tell you about Suzanne. Suzanne came to me for coaching to help her work through perfectionism, and anxiety about her role as a mom, a daughter, and a volunteer. She was a joy to work with: Always taking time to think deeply and consider her habits and what she thought about herself.

I reached out to her last week to see if she would be interested in helping me out by taking the Balance and Boundaries Audit. She took audit with me and I was thrilled that she rated nearly every area in her life a 9/10. She's made incredible changes to how she views her life and herself. I'm proud of her and the work we did together.

On the audit she also saw where some guilt, judgment, and not prioritizing sleep were holding her back. Instead of ignoring those things and hoping they’d change on their own, she’s actively working on improving herself again by adjusting her mindset and ditching the 4:00 coffee.

How To Shift Your Mindset And Why You Should

Mindset work isn’t about forcing yourself to think happy thoughts. Your brain is super smart and sensitive and it knows when you're lying to yourself. However, it also doesn't mean you can't change what you think!

Shifting your mindset is about finding evidence that other things can be true that you might not have considered yet. It's about setting realistic expectations and reframing the way you see yourself, your thoughts about challenges, and what you're capable of; one thought at a time.

For example, when you

?? Stop overcommitting (even though you're afraid people will think you're quitting on them)

?? Quit overthinking (and learn to trust yourself and your intuition), and

?? Knock off the over-apologizing (people will accept your apology or not),

you create the space to breathe, be present, move on, and to feel good about the way you’re living your life.

As transformational life coach Laura Flowers said in episode 131 of More Than Anxiety:

"Burnout isn’t just about being tired. It’s a thread of patterns—overcommitting, ignoring your own needs, pushing through stress until your body forces you to stop."

(You can listen to the episode here since Linked in won't let me add links to words: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2040149/episodes/16678851)

If you’ve been feeling exhausted, emotionally drained, or like you’re running on fumes, it’s not just bad luck, it’s a sign that something needs to change. And that change starts with your mindset and habits.
