Bouncing Back: Two Powerful Methods for Regaining Confidence

Do you ever feel like life is just one setback after another? Like you're on a rollercoaster ride that just won't stop? Well, you're not alone. We've all been there.

I certainly was. Toward the end of last year I had to navigate a series of failures in love, business, and a humiliating defeat in the boxing ring??. But the good news is that we don't have to stay stuck in a rut. In fact, you can come out even stronger on the other side.

In this blog post, we're going to explore two powerful methods for regaining confidence and taking control of your life. Are you ready to buckle up and ride this rollercoaster with us? ??

First up, let's talk about identifying your goals and tracking your progress. It's one of the most effective strategies for regaining self-confidence. Here's what you do:

Step 1: Identify specifically what you had expected your results to be had everything gone as planned.

Step 2: Imagine what you would do differently if you had an opportunity to try again, with the goal of making failure impossible.

Step 3: Write down the daily activities necessary to guarantee success and track your progress against the best-case scenario.

To keep track of your progress, you can use a tool like Notion. This nifty little app lets you plan your day at the beginning of each day and review it at the end. That way, you can ensure that you're staying on track and holding yourself accountable for your goals. Plus, it helps you to identify weaknesses and areas for improvement, which you can then address through daily activities and habits. And the best part? Research shows that writing down goals and sharing progress increases the likelihood of achieving them by 33%. So, what are you waiting for? Let's get tracking!

Next up, we have self-compassion. It's a crucial tool for overcoming a crisis of confidence. And let's be real, who hasn't had a crisis of confidence at some point in their life? Recent research shows that developing self-compassion can improve self-worth, reduce negative emotions, and increase resilience. Here's how you do it:

Step 1: Acknowledge and accept your flaws and mistakes.

Step 2: Treat yourself with kindness.

Step 3: Learn to be a compassionate friend to yourself.

Okay, okay, we know it's easier said than done. But trust me, the rewards are immeasurable. You'll have a stronger sense of self and a more resilient spirit that can weather any storm. Plus, research has shown that self-compassion is associated with decreased symptoms of anxiety and depression and increased life satisfaction. So, go ahead and give yourself a big hug. You deserve it!

In conclusion, if you're facing a crisis of confidence, don't hesitate to ask for help, seek guidance, or just talk through your feelings with someone you trust. Remember, it's okay to take a step back and regroup when things get tough. With hard work, determination, and the support of those around you, you can overcome any obstacle and come out stronger on the other side. And with tools like Notion, you can stay organized and focused on your goals, making the journey to regaining your self-confidence a little bit easier.

Excellent read, well done David! And so honest, too. To me, the idea of taking a step back is a big one. An MBA student once told me that he viewed his experience of taking time out of a successful corporate career to do an MBA, as a step back. But he also viewed it as a step back in the bow and arrow sense: you make a move back to shoot forward. That, I thought, is a great reframing of those temporary setbacks. One other idea that came to my mind is on the sense of flow. Hard work is essential, I think, in order to succeed, yet, if you're in the zone of flow, then the hard work won't feel 'hard' per se. Very interesting!
