The Bots Are Coming!

Trailblazing Human and Entity Identity & Learning Visionary - Created a new legal identity architecture for humans/ AI systems/bots and leveraged this to create a new learning architecture

March 31, 2023 update - I strongly suggest to the reader to skim these more recent articles on examples of AI/bots, decentralized AI, governance and toolkits:
We're in the early days of a bot revolution, both physically and digitally. This article dives into issues of legal identity, consent, data and privacy. Note - It's complicated!
Bots are Here!
The world is quickly becoming awash with many different types of bots. Examples include but aren't limited to:
Physical Bots
Digital Bots
Do Bots Require Identities?
It depends on risk. Where the risk is low, likely any identity given to a physical or digital bot will suffice. Manufacturers of physical bots will likely assign unique identifiers/identities to their bots. This could be referenced in a contract.
Medium to High Risk
Require not only unique identities, but also, depending on risk, unique legal identities. The legal identity of each bot, must work not only in Jurisdiction A but all other jurisdictions around the planet.
Further, with respect to digital bots, they can be created at awesome speeds of thousands, hundreds of thousands or more, EACH SECOND, which in the next second, can be operating in all other jurisdictions around the planet. This is something existing legal identity frameworks aren't built for.
Finally, there's no legal framework today, around the planet, which can easily, instantly differentiate a bot from a human and vice versa. This is a fundamental core of identity.
To see lots of writing I've done on all the above, skim the references at the end of this article.
Problem 1 - There's no legal identity framework for AI systems and bots on the planet, nor is there a commercial version to use instead.
Consent
A "bot" is very different than a "human" in it's hypothetical ability to take in all sorts of different human personal data EACH SECOND (e.g., biometrics, behavioral, neuro data, etc.), as well as other bot data, and then be able to INSTANTLY SHARE THIS with one, hundreds, thousands or more other bots, et al.
It means both humans and AI systems/bots require consent mechanisms, INSTANTLY granting legal consent agreements, which specify the following:
All the above requires, for both humans and AI systems/bots, creation of AI leveraged PIAM's (Personal Identity Access Management) services, which can automatically create legal consent agreements. The consent agreements created by the PIAM will likely be stored in each entity's SOLICT "Source of Legal Identity & Credential Truth" databases.
Problem 2 - Today on the planet, there's no identity framework allowing for SOLICT's, PIAM's etc.
Data
The flow of data should be encrypted from within the source entity to the final destinations. Depending on risk, the actual sensitive data should likely be stored in encrypted form. BOTS ALSO REQUIRE THEIR OWN DATA SECURITY.
Problem 3 - The massive proliferation of data from bots, means, depending on risk, our current higgledy-piggledy mess of data standards must become standardized across the planet, deployed, and enforced.
Privacy
Bots too require privacy i.e., it's not just humans we should be focusing on. Bots too can come under attacks from criminals/malicious states, stealing their data, etc. Now consider today's cybercrime prosecution success rate - 5%!
Problem 4 - Until the planet deals with enforcing criminal prosecution, all the privacy laws and regulations created by each jurisdiction won't add up to a hill of beans, especially with respect to bots.
Rate of Change
The rate of change depicted by this curve, means that any bot identity framework MUST be built to withstand attacks created by the curve, EACH NEW HOUR.
Problem 5 - Today on the planet, there's no framework built to rapidly identify attack risks against AI system and bot identities, issue continual threat assessments and enforce rapid response.
YIKES!!!!!
This is how I sum up, in one word, the planetary state of bot identity. IT'S A WHOPPER MESS. It's beyond the scope of any one jurisdiction solving it on its own, a bot association, etc.
Solution - New Legal Identity Framework
I've spend the last several years working my way through all the above for both AI systems/bots and humans. If I've caught your interest, then skim the reference links at the end of this article and call me. Thanks!
About Guy Huntington
I'm an identity trailblazing problem solver. My past clients include Boeing, Capital One and the Government of Alberta's Digital Citizen Identity & Authentication project. Many of my past projects were leading edge at the time in the identity/security space. I've spent the last eight years working my way through creating a new legal identity architecture and leveraging this to then rethink learning.
I've also done a lot in education as a volunteer over my lifetime.?This included chairing my school district's technology committee in the 90's - which resulted in wiring most of the schools with optic fiber, behind building a technology leveraged school, and past president of Skills Canada BC and Skills Canada.
I do short term consulting for Boards, C-suites and Governments, assisting them in readying themselves for the arrival of AI systems, bots and AI leveraged, smart digital identities of humans.
I've written LOTS about the change coming. Skim the?over 100 LinkedIn articles?I've written,?or my webpage?with lots of papers.
